Uh, tough one indeed...because I dislike both but I could professionally watch their movies. I could separate my feeling offscreen and onscreen. By slightly margin I vote for Aish auntie. I saw her in sexy avatar in dhoom 2 and some song in taal, like Ramta Jogi Song. She excelled in traditional looks too and her princess avatar in Jodha Akhbar much better than Kareena in Asoka. However, I can't stand Aish when she did something that bubbly..felt like forceful. kareena master in it. I vote Aish because she could master in sexy avatar decently 😆, while Kareena is lil irritating in that field like in Mujhse Dosti or Tashan. Both acts decently in sorta genres, but irritatingly in some too. Tough call!!!!!

too bad.

kareena is a better actor and ash is a classic beauty. only dept where ash has upper hand when it comes to dance/musical movies.

btw... it doesn't make ash or any actor superior just cos they acted in tamil, bollywood, bengali movies. whats the big deal.
i haven't seen all those movies, who knows maybe they even sucked more in these movies.

@Bold
The big deal here is Lady Bri, she tried. In a language that they did not know how to speak. Begum is famous for saying she cannot emote in a language she cannot understand. But the thing is others have and it has opened up a world of beauty in acting.

@Red
Little known fact, Ash made her debut in Tamil Film called Iruvar by Manirathnam. They dubbed her dialog, It is a double role and one of them is based on Jayalalitha (who is an actress turned politician and current/former Tamil Nadu CM). It won best film awards in European Film Festivals and included in best films ever in British lists.

She acted in another Tamil film called Jeans where she was the heroine. It was the Indian Entry for the Oscars that year.

Both these films were early in her career, even pre HDDCS.

Another Tamil Film called KanduKondein Kandu Kondein which is a remake of Sense and Sensibility won many FilmFare awards.

Chokher Bali is a Bengali film based on a Tagore Novel. It was an official selection of several Film Festivals around the world.

This is a sample of what Ash's work is in regional cinema. Her Hindi work is certainly not among her best at all. You want to see Ash act, really act in a stripped down manner, go to regional cinema.

There is a reason someone like Tabu who gets to do films like Jai Ho and rarely gets a Haider in Hindi works in Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil a lot for decades because she gets films to showcase her talent in a varied way. I think she has also worked in Bengali and Marathi plus Hollywood. You get to showcase your talent in a wider way which may or may not work, but there are certainly differences that you cannot possible see in a single language.

This I agree with her. Some of her work has been Tamil or the Bengali movie Chokher Bali. She is so vulnerable and raw. Even though there is a langauge barrier, she well does a lot better in regional cinema.

well well..yes bhansali rejected kareena after screen test for devdas, but the min he got opportunity to work with her again he went on to say: "i see Meena Kumari in Kareena Kapoor Khan"😆
i would take this complinment rather than a failing screen test. and speaking about bhansali, i don't think he is going to look at other actresses anymore, he has found his new/fav muse, deepika P. 😆
if an actor can't crack me in any movies, i don't consider them versatile. at least kareena cracked me big time in jwm. its a very very tough act to make someone crack.😆
many times i heard how come their bollywood fav didn't get awarded a national trophy. to that i said, cos maybe there are other more deserving performances maybe from REGIONAL movies, that we are not aware of . if i am not wrong sadma is a remake of a regional movie, i have always praised it, but don't tell me all regional movies are solid. just cos your fav is in a regional movie, he/she becomes more versatile, in that case asin is also versatile, forget about kareena.
its not the quantity that matters, its the quality.
i have huge respect for mani ratnam and his roja (seen it like 10x), kamla hassan and his ek duje ke liye, dhanush for ranghana...aur kya karen.
regional cinema. i watched spanish version (if that is considered regional) 😆of guzaarish. the day i heard bhansali is ready to butcher...i said, huge entertainment on its way!😆

@Bold
Asin is versatile and award winning if Filmfare awards mean anything to you. She was nominated and has won filmfare awards in both Tamil and Telugu. All regional movies are not solid, but to dismiss regional movies and say Hindi is superior is a fallacy.

But here are some facts:
Most Indian films entered for Oscar foreign films belongs to Kamal Hassan. Most if all are in Tamil. Kamal Hassan who has written, directed and acted for decades. And let it be also known did not become huge in Hindi. One tends to wonder why ?

@Red
See above Kamal Hassan. Plus Hindi is one industry. Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam I can speak with authority have better films in subjects they treat. The few Bengali films I have seen have all been very good and I keep hearing of someone like Ritesh Deshmukh who was a BW flop do good work as in good films in Marathi. Quality is not the corner stone of BW.

Taking an OT, even Masala films are South remakes. Tamil and Telugu have huge world wide audiences. They can make films 100 crores by themselves. There is a reason Hindi Masala movies are dubbed in Tamil and Telugu and released on the same day as Hindi versions and make a contribution to the final BO.

@Blue
That is a true statement. The person must ultimately appeal to you regardless of what they have done. I am no angel in this, I do it too.

But the fact is in the forum since this is a BW forum many people do not seem to have an idea about the good work BW actors have done in regional cinema. So in a comparison poll, say honestly you like Kareena and not Ash and that is why you find her versatile. 😆. But dismissing the work of Ash out of hand in them because of lack of knowledge is unfair. This poll is the biggest example of that.

People thought Aamir was bigger than Raj Kapoor, Kamal when it came to being an all rounder. But when you lay things down some things are facts that cannot be argued.

If you don't have the appropriate knowledge about something then its better not to comment on it. Obviously Spanish films are not what is being referred to here when we talk about "regional films"
and yeah Guzarish was "butchered" ...this statement is coming from someone who enjoyed SOTY 😆
