😆

But can you speak Spanish/Portuguese with the same accent as someone who is native language is Spanish? I speak Spanish too but it's with American accent.

Katrina speaks Hindi but she hasn't got the accent right, which is not as bad as people are making out to be

Yep, plus depends on what kind of Spanish you know. There is Mexican Spanish, Cuban Spanish, Carribean Spanish, the one spoken in Spain plus who knows what else. Just go to Miami thinking you know Spanish and speak it with a desi American accent and try to get people to understand you 😆 .
Fun, fun, fun. And I can speak Spanish better than I can speak Hindi, but the accent is a killer.

Even the basic 'US' accent is very different from person to person and depends on a lot of factors like if you were here from birth or a young age vs coming in as an adult. It also depends on which part of the US you grew up in. North and South US have very different ways of speaking English. Throw in which part of India your people are from. An accent is like a recipe. Made of so many factors.

People trying to put down Kat for an accent should try to learn a new language from scratch when you are older and in a new country and try it against native speakers. Then you will know how much of an effort she has made.

I didnt read the TM's post, except first para 😆 ... but I AGREE :(
I'm a South Indian, and took Hindi as my second language with ICSE as my syllabus that prescribes us hindi in Devnagri lipi... YET. My hindi is so poor... No one would believe if I said I passed out with 84 marks in Hindi ICSE boards!
Studying for hindi exams was always such a nightmare, even for monthly tests. I wouldnt sleep at all. I still get horrible dreams about hindi exams! 🥺

The amount of time which Kat has spent in India with so many people speaking hindi around her, I dont think it would be that difficult for anyone to learn it... Honestly, hindi is not some difficult language which takes so much time to learn ya understand... Its quite a simple language... When she can understand interviewers questions clearly, Y she hesitates to talk in her very own movies... That's a million dollar question...

I'm a bengali and I found Hindi very easy to learn. I can speak little Marathi as well. I picked it up in 8 months I stayed with Marathi roomies in UK. The point I want to make is may be it was not very difficult for me because my mother tongue is some what similar to these languages and all originated from Sanskrit. But it wont be that easier for a south indian of course though I have seen few south indians also who can speak hindi well with a bit of accent though.
Coming to Katrina, it must have been extremely difficult for her given she was not familiar with any of the North Indian language. I dont think or expect that her accent can ever go away. However, I honestly feel her hindi was cuter in Namastey London days.

Why do people keep saying Hindi is an easy language to learn ? Compared to what ? Mandarin Chinese ? Japanese ? Try telling a Chinese or Japanese person their language is hard. It may be easy for you because it is your mother tongue or you were taught formally with good grammar or just because you pick up languages.

I know several languages. I also picked up Malayalam the same way I picked up Hindi. By watching movies. But it came quite easily because I know Tamil. I speak it better because it is similar to a language I know very well. Even my grammar is better.

Hindi is nothing similar to what I know. There are these female and male things that only French and Spanish have. I learned Spanish better because of French. The basic concepts are similar and several words look familiar. Nothing looks familiar to me in Hindi. So I find it hard. Very hard to learn. I know all these words in Hindi, but I find it hard to make a proper sentence because I do not know basic grammar. And I am not the one who has to promote my movie in front of native speakers who speak superior Hindi and will judge me on the top of it. If I cannot express myself in a way people can understand, I default to English. Not because I am proud or want to show off. Same for Kat maybe ?

Brazilian Portuguese? No, I am still walking on it though, some words I get right others not so. But I do speak like native 'Spaniard'. Numerous native speakers have complemented my pronunciation and speaking ability. I have the same accent as people from Castilla & Leon (Spanish state) because my teachers were/are from there and I've pretty much absorbed their accent. My accent is spot on and very few ppl can tell that I am a non native speaker. I was already an adult when I learned the language by the way. So yeah boo in your face a big f-u,

Stop generalizing that everyone can pick languages quickly or gain enough confidence when adult to learn a completely new language.

Cut Katrina some slack, also that does not make anyone dumb. I know few even though know Urdu still speak with an accent and also those who understand but refuse to talk in Urdu. Maybe they are not that comfortable in conversing or have enough confidence.

I also watch Hindi movies but only know basic words, if I listened to proper hindi would not understand a single sentence.
