The numbers are hypothetical. If we could get production costs and returns for a multitude of flicks we could get some better analysis.

But the bigger picture theory is that "revenue" is not the only criteria for financial/commercial success. There has been a lot said about the 100 crore film. The 100 crore benchmark is also used as an argument to explain why these films are superior.

However, even if we use finances as the criteria to judge a good film, revenue is only part of the picture. 20x > 10x> 5X> 2x returns. A consistent return is better than volatility. Sometimes being in the middle is not a bad thing.

It is a bit hard to see it that way unless you compare two 100 crore movies . The one with the less cost is the real winner because their profit is higher . For example Aashiqui 2 cost was just 10 crore , when it comes to money , it is most profitable .

Option 1 still has higher profit margin 50 crore vs 18 crore, but a shitty ROI.
