For months, it was heard that Govinda would be playing Alia Bhatt's father in Vikas Bahl's Shandaar' but recently, news came that the actor rejected the role. There are now strong rumours that Bahl is trying to convince Karan Johar to step into the role. While Johar seems to have rejected the role too, Bahl is still working on convincing him.
"Vikas is very impressed with Karan's performance in Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet' and felt he'd do justice to Shandaar'. But after considering the offer for a while, Karna said he was not interested," a source informed Mumbai Mirror.
Apparently, director Sajid Khan was also considered for the role but rejected the offer as he is busy with his next directorial.
Shandaar' will see Alia Bhatt opposite Shahid Kapoor for the first time.

A clean slate for Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt

The lead actors of Vikas Bahl's Shaandaar, Shahid Kapur and Alia Bhatt, have decided not to meet each other or learn too much about the other's personality before they start shooting.

They want to face the camera for the first time without any rehearsal shoots.

Alia also told us that when the actors had to go in for a recce for the film, they did so individually.

The reason for all this is that they want their raw chemistry to be the USP of the film and Vikas too is supportive of his lead pair's decision.

"Be it Sidharth (Malhotra), Varun (Dhawan) or Arjun (Kapoor), I've shared a great rapport with all my co-stars. It's easier to work with friends. Working with an actor who isn't my buddy, will have its own USP. I've met Shahid on a few occasions but we haven't had the time to bond. The fact that we don't know each other or share an equation, will be a challenge. If at all there is any awkwardness, it'll only add to our on-screen chemistry," reveals Alia.

Normally, actors have to do photo shoots and look tests to ensure that they'll make for a good onscreen pair. Well, not this time it seems.

Sanjay Kapoor joins the cast of Vikas Bahl's Shandaar

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, August 30, 2014 - 10:59 hrs IST

Sanjay Kapoor, who was last seen in the Vivek Oberoi starrer Prince, will now be seen once again on the silver screen in the Shahid Kapoor- Alia Bhatt starrer Shandaar, which is being directed by Vikas Bahl.

News reports have it that he will be playing a key role in the film, which is of Alia Bhatt's sister's husband's brother. Reports also state that he is presently in London where he will be shooting for the film over the next few months.

Besides Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Kapoor, Shandaar also stars Pankaj Kapoor, who will be seen playing the role of Alia Bhatt's father in the film.

MEET SHAHID'S SIS SANAH

Not too long ago, Shahid Kapoor announced that working in Shandaar will be a family affair for him. It's because the movie not only stars his father Pankaj Kapur, but also his sisterSanah Kapoor.

As soon as Shahid Kapoor is through promoting Haider, releasing October 2, he will start working on romantic drama Shandaar to be directed by the 'Queen' fame Vikas Bahl. The movie stars Alia Bhatt opposite him, and his sister Sanah Kapoor apparently plays Alia's sister. Interestingly, Shahid's father Pankaj Kapur will be seen as father of the girls.

Quite like other members of her family, Sanah Kapoor is very much keen on making acting her career. The young girl has completed an acting course from the Lee Stratsberg Theatre & Film Institute, New York.

While her mother Supriya Pathak Kapur is active on big screen as well as small screen, it seems Sanah's interest solely lies in Bollywood as she follows the footsteps of her father and brother.

Shandaar is going to be shot on a lavish scale on foreign locales. The movie is a first-of-its-kind destination wedding film, wherein an Indian family goes to Europe.
