Do directors not look for acting anymore?

If u look at films in Hollywood, many times u wud see the director choose an actor that can best execute the role, they even choose someone who physically fits the bill aswell. Many times they wud hav auditions to find a new face who can do that.

But wat is happening in Bollywood? Does acting not matter at all? It seems directors and producers r not looking at who can execute the role the best, but who can get the movie to make over 100 crores.
Like they want a big star to always be in their movies just so that it can make money, film making is supposed to be a craft that can be experimented and appreciated.
I guess that's why Bollywood has such a small casting pool, they choose only a few who can be superstars and keep repeatedly casting them in every movie to make money.
So my question is should Bollywood introduce more actors in their industry? like Hollywood is doing all the time. And does acting really matter anymore?

hmm thats true, its sad really, those kids who r going to acting schools and really want to be in a project that has true art and substance in it r really struggling in the industry.
And there r people who do care about acting and want quality cinema, but ur rite the majority of Bollywood watchers don't really care bout that.

See the thing is that at the end of the day BO numbers...What motivation does Sonakshi has to choose a Lootera over Rowdy Rathore...or SRK choosing Swades over CE...or Salman doing a Tere Naam over all the masala he does...or Aamir chosing a talash over D3 ...Time and again the audience has shown the good movie their middle finger...The actors, directors , producers all have to survive...they cannot go on investing without getting returns.

In today's time, acting doesn't have much importance anymore. At least I genuinely feel that. Let alone acting, the scripts are disastrous too. But if the actor sells and if he or she has a huge fan base, its evident that the movie will do well no matter how bad the script or acting was. Sad fact about Bollywood.

90s and pre 90s scripts had great essence to them. The scripts were actually strong and true acting was shown by most of the actors and actresses back then.

Tigmangshu Dhulia once said *paraphrasing* he worked with Mahi Gill when he didn't have enough money to pay his actors, now he can afford the glamor girl Kareena so he's looking for working with Kareena and her type.

Yeah, the directors never look for acting. 'Gareebi' makes them pick those real actors, not their will.

because the director shouldn't cater to what an audiences wants. I thought they were like artist who create work out of their passion. There certainly are those directors but few and far between in BW who get attention.

TM to put it bluntly this is the sad truth posted.

If you ever watch early Bollywood films even then their stories were more experimental.

Casting was more diverse.

Now it's just the same faces on repeat.

I don think you can blame the directors..If an SRK or a Salman get them 200 crores, why will they bother casting a Rajkumar Rao or a Nawaz? Its business at the end of the day..Even Hirani chose someone like Aamir ( and his first choice was SRK) to play a college student in 3 Idiots..Its a different thing that Aamir played the role well but why dint he go for a younger actor who suits the role? Because 3 Idiots, despite being a well made film, would have probably made a 90 or 100 crores instead of the 200 it eventually made with younger actors..Look at Karan..How can you go from HR to a Ranveer or Salman or SRK for the same role? 😆 To me, the kinda roles a Salman or HR fit in are poles apart..I cant see HR doing a Dabangg or Kick..Same way, i cant see Salman doing a Jodha Akbar..But Shudhi has been offered to both..That simply shows ppl don care about whether an actor suits the part..Its only about their star power and BO potential..A Katrina is on everyone's wish list not because she is a great actor or suits all the roles but simply because she has great BO pull..Thats all matters at the end of the day..There are very few directors who actually go for actors who suit the role..Even Ayaan who was brave enough to cast Koko with Biru has succumbed & is casting Alia in his next..She might suit the role for all we know but we all know the main reason why he is actually casting her 😆

Rather I feel...that now the directors and actors are becoming braver..that's why we find the distinction between mainstream and art films disappearing..whereas previously actual acting only got done in art films..now all sorts of subjects are being experimented with...and mainstream heroes are acting in it and audience are accepting it...more heroine centric movies are coming out...
So I feel cinema is moving in the right direction...as for masala movies..they also have their place in entertainment and requires immense hardwork and risk from the actors in the form of action...action takes a lot out of them..
