No BI. Maybe not justified but definitely glamorised. 😆 That was year of baddies. With Sanjay Dutt also proudly declaring, Nayak nahin Khalnayak hun main.😉

Many boys started writing girl's name with blade on their arms or chest like SRK's character.

I do not know if there were controversies on these films but I surely remember parents and elders dissing these films and commenting how films send wrong message to young people.

I think tvdekha is right. Chopra uses a psychiatrist to describe Rahul's condition but there is never an attempt to treat or rein in Rahul. He does what he does. And in end there is tragic BGM playing when he dies. I didn't feel "happy" when Sunny and Juhi safely returned home. Maybe because impact of death scene is still there. Even the hatred evoked for Rahul due to Kiran's screams and torment earlier in the film is paled thanks to the climax.

Very valid points. Either it was Chopra's desire to show Rahul's POV than a story of a terrorised girl (and harassed couple later). Or he made Rahul Mehra deliberately better fleshed out and crafted him to prove a point to all those who rejected his film. For SRK it was a huge break as a newbie and he sunk every tooth into the role.

Agree...SRK's initial films were really different...He always played flawed character or negative character and made those character lovable through his acting...Another kind of character he used to play was where he used to be inferior than the person the heroin used to like...

Also I want to add that Anjam was Madhuri's film...So the writer/director didn't have to explain SRK's character...He was plain bad in that movie...While talking about Anjam,I really wonder what was the need of that song where Madhuri's character was dancing and then pushed Srk's character in the swimming pool...Was she trying to cure the patient by seducing him as she know he is obsessed with her!I am experienced in watching songs playing all of a sudden without any reason...But that song was too much for me...

SRK in Anjaam is just a rich brat who is spoilt and too used to having things his own way and when he does not get what he wants he goes crazy. He beat up Madhuri, killed her husband, sister and even daughter (drunk driving), he got Madhuri jailed by injuring himself and falsely accusing her of trying to kill him. The acts he did were too despicable to sympathise with him.

Unlike Darr where mental condition angle is there and he kills everyone but never harms Juhi. I mean I hated him for terrorising her on her grihapravesh day after her wedding (she entered her new house with so much delight and came inside only to find I love Kkkiran written all over walls and dilapidated room). But he never physically harms her or kills her family. Maybe because Sunny Deol survives so you don't hate him much for killing her husband.

Madhuri was dancing only to seduce him and punish him for his sins.😆 It is sort of karmic justice to lure someone to his doom.

I like SRK only and solely for his initial films. Not bothered about anything done in recent years except CDI and Swades.

@skep,

I am trying to understand whether SRK's character got sympathy or not...I didn't sympathize with him which is almost impossible for a fan...

In Anjam why they killed Madhuri,I didn't expect they will kill her! They probably ended her character as she killed lots of people otherwise I don't get any reason why they killed her...

@ Madhuri was dancing only to seduce him and punish him for his sins. It is sort of karmic
justice to lure someone to his doom. ------- I was finding it very difficult watching the song...She was dancing so seriously with expressions and then from nowhere that mother and probably a doctor comes as if they were waiting her to finish her singing and dancing.😆

The last movie of SRK I loved was My Name is Khan...And have to mention that Jab taak hai jaan was a nightmare for me.

Me too.
He was fabulous in Darr, Bazigar and Anjaam.
I loathed him in Anjaam. Hated the end where they killed Madhuri with Shahrukhs character. It looked like Vijay won in the end.

For me the moral of Anjaam was that revenge never stops, you forget all your morals and do things you'd never thought you do, even killing a person.

Vijay didn't win in the end, neither did Madhuri's character. They both lost - their lives and their fight to get one up the other.

I was only 6 years old when I went to watch darr with my father n lil sister..she was 4...we didnt get balcony seats...so with 2 ordnary black tickets we watched...it was so filmy...i sat at adiff place n my father n sis sat at a different row...my father was hesitant to buy tickets as seats were nt together...my sis n myself we both started crying making a scene...hehahahha...so finally we could...n at that age we both were dieing to see srk...kkk kiran...jadu teri nazar...oh my god...we were crazy abt srk...even his looks n smile also...that time only zee tv was thr...n we used to wait hours to watch the trailer of darr ...though it was a villian, I I wanted him to be with juhi rather than sunny...so I guess my love n sympathy was for srk rather than rahul...

In bazigar when he dies I cried loads...ttujhe lag jaye meri umar bg music...it was so emotional...shilpa died...I was hell shocked only...didnt cry...but srk died at the end ...it was too emotional...but in bazigar srks acting n characterization both added to the sympathy for the character...

I do not think SRK's character in Anjaam got any sympathy. Madhuri was killed probably because she had lost everything, had nothing to live for and had herself killed too many people. In last scene she could tolerate dying herself than giving any chance to SRK to somehow survive or escape.

Anjaam and Darr make me wonder about filmmaker's vision in handling the negative character. Anjaam was definitely about the torture woman had to go through and never created sympathy for villain. Darr is not about the woman being tormented but the man who torments her. Maybe this is why many leading heroines also rejected Darr - Sridevi, Divya Bharti, Madhuri (read that she chose Anjaam over Darr as it was more author backed).

I also think the same...

Now I remember...When he was about to fall he grabbed Madhuri's hand and Madhuri had two choices, two save him to save herserlf or to kill him by killing herself...She chose the later...

He overshadows Sunny in the film because he is a much better actor. Nothing less nothing more.
