Due to popular demand I'm going to replace AAA with TZP, even though I think AAA is one of the 6 cult comic capers in the history of Bollywood along with Padosan, Chupke Chupke, Angoor, Golmaal(the original 70's film) & Hera Pheri.

I would add Dhobi Ghat as well. Such a poignant film. And Rangeela and Dil hain ki manta nahin.

Yes I agree, Aamir has a very versatile filmography. He's pretty much the only actor whose movies I watch at the theater consistently.

Typical Aamir fan! Calling even ordinary films like Akele hum akele tum great while Amitabh's films are garbage?
His films were not mere potboilers. They represented struggles of those times. He is popular in ideological context. Then there are serious dramas like Abhimaan, Namak Haraam, Anand and comedies like Chupke Chupke, Satte pe satta.

Anand, Deewar, Abhimaan, Zanjeer, Chupke Chupke, Majboor, Parvarish, Sholay, Roti Kapda aur makaan, Trishul, Don, Mili, Muqaddar Ka sikandar, Namak Haraam, Kaala Patthar, Namak Halal, Silsila, Satte pe Satta, Shakti, Kabhi kabhie, Agneepath. Later - Black, Baghban, Bunty aur Babli, Sarkar, Paa.

I have left couple of more successful and acclaimed films, still his list is so lengthy

Comedy, drama, serious, action, arthouse he did it all! For now I have also left his credits in regional films he did.

There are commercially and critically acclaimed films of Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Dilip Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Ashok Kumar also. Sunil Dutt and Dharmendra have impressive credits as well.
Kamal Haasan has damn impressive record that too spread across various languages and genre.

Just because there are other stars not from an era we know of, it does not mean actor in present era is best ever.

Aamir is having an edge only above his contemporaries. He is not the all time best.

100% agree with Bold. Exactly. Aamir is certainly the contemporary best, but all time. Oh hell no.

I did Kamal Hassan. This is a good thread though, nice to go through filmographies and see who is versatile.

Sridevi and Hemaji would also be interesting to see how many genres fit into the films they have.

That's such an ugly list, it hurts my eyes!!

We're not talking about successful films here. Notice how not one person has mentioned Raja Hindustani. We're talking about quality here. If you consider B aur B & Satte pe Satta quality then you might as well make a list of Salman's blockbusters too.

And Kamal Hassan is an all time great, from what I've heard, so is Mohan Lal but this is a Bollywood forum and not many people, including me, have seen their regional work. From what lil I've seen of Kamal Hassan, he's impressive in a few, and rather average in others.

Whats next, a De Niro & Tom Hanks list?

@meribaat
Yes nice thread. We should list all actors who have solid filmography. Then see.

To be honest Aamir's iconic films begin from post Lagaan era. Since it got nominated for Oscar, his routine 90s films also got reinterpreted in stature.

JJWS is nowhere close to icon of Darr, Baazigar, MPK, HAHK, DDLJ, Border. In any list of defining 90s films others will have an edge over Aamir. Though post Lagaan era surely gives him an edge but that too only above his contemporaries.

Dilip Kumar and Ashok Kumar are bosses of solid filmography IMO. Bloody brilliant from 40s and 30s (respectively) to 90s! Ashok K was so awesome...even part of iconic TV shows from golden era of Indian Television.

Would be fun to compare Sridevi and Hema too!

Then do not make generalized assumptions. Someone like Kamal Hassan who has written, directed, produced, acted in multiple roles in one movie is automatically a cut above the rest. He has also had the highest number of films in Oscar foreign film entries. These are facts, not something that you can argue with because you like an actor.

Atominis and I am not taking anything away from Aamir by bringing names. Kamal Hassan worked in the South and if you want BW, I will do Raj Kapoor. His filmography is extensive. I could also throw in Guru Dutt in the mix but comedy is where I am stumped. This is a great thread, don't get me wrong. Amitji also is very strong. In women, I am fairly certain Sridevi and Hemaji are versatile. I could certainly try to match up.

The title is Can any actor beat this ? So why are you getting upset if we show we can.

This may be a BW forum, but acting is acting. Any region. I could do the same with Mammotty of Malayalam, 98% certain Akkineni Nageshwara Rao of Telugu and fairly certain of his son Nagarjuna.

If you wanted to just celebrate Aamir's filmography I would have certainly joined so, but since you said Can any actor beat this ? my answer is Hell yes. In Bollywood and in the South.

Zanjeer, Namak Haraam, Kaala Patthar, Trishul, Shakti, Deewar, Silsila, Majboor are critically acclaimed too. And FYI, Kaala Patthar, Shakti, Silsila are not commercially that successful. They are considered underperformers.

I listed Namak Haraam and Bunty aur Babli for versatility.

Even if you cut few from his list he still has top notch filmography.

Quality does not begin from IMDb only.

Ugly list? Sure. As if anybody gives a damn to Akele Hum Akele Tum or JJWS besides Aamir fans!

Bashing Bachchan can't change facts.

Just as there are BO lists, there are critical appreciation texts too for his films.

BTW, you need to look up Dilip Kumar and Ashok Kumar filmographies too. But either you won't or will bash films as ugly/routine stuff - going by your responses that is.
