Older actresses fools for making a comeback?

I have noticed this a lot on the forum.

Realistic: Movies with older actresses do not work at the BO and they make a complete fool out of themselves by appearing in such movies. It is better not to be a part of movies, because as it is they are going to "flop". They look like aunty's and they should sit at home instead of looking like a fool.

Flop movie = Making a fool out of yourself?

If that were the case then Amitabh delivered 12 consecutive flops before his hit - he should have been more "realistic" and stopped on the 3rd or 4th flop. Yes, he was quite young, but he was making a complete fool out of himself by delivering flops.

Why shouldn't these actresses be a part of movies? Why should they sit at home when they want to work and get paid to work? Since when did flops determine the quality of the movie?

What do you think? Are they making a fool out of themselves?

How are they making fool of themselves? They have all right to come on movies. If some people don't want to watch then simply don't watch it. No one forces you to.
Actresses like Aishwarya, Kajol, Preity, Rani, Karishma are so talented and pretty. I would take these actresses over most of the current actresses of today. They are brilliant actresse. Just because their prime is over, that doesn't mean they shouldn't come on movies. I think they should. If they do a good movie then audience will accept them.

Example is Sridevi English Vinglish and all kajol come backs which were so successful. Be it current actresses or senior actresses, what sells for women centric movie is the script. If the story is crap then the movie will be flop whether the producers make it with current actresses or older actresses.

I feel these all actresses just need one good movie to bounce back. I am big fan of all five actresses I mentioned above and I seriously wish them all the best, I hope their come back movies prove to be successful. They deserved it.

And personally I feel they just need one good movie to bounce back. I am sure that will happen. I hope these actresses work with Salman Shahrukh Aamir Hrithik Akshay.

Good Topic

Its pathetic when people ridicule older actresses for making comebacks. They are simply going back to their job, what's the big deal! I didn't know doing your job meant your a fool.

Films like English Vinglish, Dedh Ishqiya, etc require an older actress to play the role. If we didn't have the older lot making comebacks then such films would probably not ever be made. And even if they are, they wouldn't even be given prominence.

If actresses want to utilize their passion and talent then they very well have every right to do so.

They should definitely continue working.

But they should prepare themselves accordingly. If they want to do commercial roles or young woman roles, then they should maintain themselves accordingly else the media and public won't lose a chance to pick on them, the way people pick at SRK for looking wrinkly and call him uncle and buddha and say he should retire.

Playing age appropriate roles is always best though. Juhi, Madhuri Sridevi etc have all aged gracefully, and they are playing roles more or less according to their age only. Even if their films are not big hits, they are doing good work, getting acclaimed (Juhi in Onir and Nagesh Kukunoor's films, Madhuri in Dedh Ishqiya, Sridevi in EV etc.) and hence they should continue. There is no reason why they should stop.

Producers are ready to invest their money in these actresses.
These actresses are working their ass off to come back.

Why the hell should anyone else have any problem? One can choose not to watch and ignore it. Who is anyone to dictate what should they do and what not? Don't we have freedom to work in the field we like? They achieved a lot in their life , much more than most of us cant even think of and here we are trying to give them advice?😕

They can do movies, sleep, eat, cook , sweep , whatever they want.

i want to see older actresses making a successful comeback.
its sad, but truth is older actresses movies simply bomb at boxoffice. barring sridevi, no body else could make a successful comeback.
even kajols, we are family bombed. they might get critical acclaim, but no commercial success for them.

If they want to work they should work! Making fool of themselves is when they do poor roles or give bad performances (even if they make fool of themselves it is their issue not ours to bother!). Flop is nothing to be ashamed of.
Whether producer gains or loses it is his headache. If actors get work and earn it's their prerogative.

I feel all artistes should keep trying, keep improving and reinventing. You may never know when you hit bull's eye. English Vinglish is one example.

Nothing succeeds like success. in BW, only what you're today matters. Not just for women but also for yesteryear male stars like Govinda. He's doing character roles now. If you look at past, its very hard to make a strong comeback after you've been out of limelight for long voluntarily or due to lack of offers. Not to mention there is dearth of commercial viable female oriented films. You get EV or Kahaani once in a year maybe.

Some doesn't want people like Madhuri to ruin her legacy by doing flop films. There's a reason why Sri Devi is taking long breaks when she could have signed plethora of films. She knows its hard to find a good script so waiting for it and enhancing her legacy. Madhuri should do the same or start doing character roles like Ab Jr, Govinda etc. Success and failure of such films aren't on your shoulder so you are not gonna end up without no offers after a few flops.

@bold: How does flops ruin "her legacy"? And why does she have to be immortalized in her prime time? Why can't she change or take risks in her career?

I don't necessarily agree with the word 'legacy' because that implies someone should stop working to stop ruining their legacy. J.K. Rowling wrote a book after Harry Potter and some people did not like the book. That did not ruin her legacy. She will always be known for Harry Potter. Amitabh Bachchan's Shabd & he had several other movies that didn't work at the BO, but he will still be remembered as the angry young man.

Likewise these actresses will be known for their hits. Not flops. Legacy can't be ruined or diminished by flops.
