Hold on, was he even considered a commercial film actor back then? Sure he did some commercial films but he was mainly known for like Company, Raincoat, Omkara- these are not commercial films.

I would say since Golmaal/Singham he has become a commercial actor, otherwise I really don't consider him one. So his over-exaggeration of how he started this trend is nauseating.

I think many actors have been experimenting WAY BEFORE Ajay even came in the industry. Sounds like he needs a review on Bollywood history.

I think he can also see that times are changing...that even his best friend Salman is signing films that are not his usual ones while he's still stuck doing the same thing. So he's trying to remind us that he already did those films.

I also think it's both, I don't see those new age meaningful films waale directors approaching Ajay anymore. All you hear about his films are South remake #1234567890.
