Ajay Devgn, who was given a National Film Award for his performance in "Zakhm", says he misses hearing scripts as moving as the 1998 movie. He feels the new generation writers in Hindi filmdom are not penning such scripts anymore.

"Zakhm' I would say, is one of my best characters and the sole reason for that is when I had heard the story by (Mahesh) Bhatt sahab, it was so touching that we used to have tears in our eyes," Ajay said here.

He admits people are experimenting with non-commercial cinema, but says "the problem is that I have not heard a script which moves me like Zakhm' did."

"I was the one who started this trend by doing films like Zakhm', Thakshak' and Raincoat' or else the actors of commercial cinema never did these kind of films. The depth is missing in the new generation and people are not writing such scripts."

"Zakhm" also featured Pooja Bhatt and depicted communal tension between two religions in contemporary society.

😆 Singham Rwturns comes out in August and promo in July. Am guessing it's promotions. But he's talking about everything else but Singham Returns. That's why we are getting so many Kareena interviews too.

Did he just ditch the today's directors? Okay I admit I haven't seen any if his films he mentioned but I don't think today's directors are that bad. Me thinks he is just giving excuses on why he's only doing masala films.

During Himmatwala promotions he said the opposite. He was very dismissive of his NA award winning movies and said he prefers commercial movies.

Also there are many filmmakers in current generation who tries to make meaningful films. AK, Motwane, Neeraj Pandey, Abhishek Kapoor etc to name a few. I think its more the case of Ajay not being interested in them anymore.

I think he can also see that times are changing...that even his best friend Salman is signing films that are not his usual ones while he's still stuck doing the same thing. So he's trying to remind us that he already did those films.

I also think it's both, I don't see those new age meaningful films waale directors approaching Ajay anymore. All you hear about his films are South remake #1234567890.

Wow lol no offense but I don't like this guy at all. He's a great actor but his Personality is total turn off at least for me.

I think many good movies were made in bolly in last couple of years. Why doesn't he admit that he doesn't want to come out of commercial cinema. There is no need to pretend

And I don't think he was the one who started the trend. Many actors before him did off beat movies and those movies were success as well!
