His grandma was a character actor (Before partition she was a famous Punjabi heroine). His dad was rich. His family used to attend the filmi people's parties. During Lootera's promotions Ranveer shared an anecdote... He said, in a party, his daadi pushed him to dance (On probably Jhooma Chumma).. Sonakshi said that she was there in the party & saw him dance.

He met Arjun when they were teens.

Shanoo Sharma.. who is also an industry kid (Singer Mukesh's granddaughter) and now the casting director of YRF (Before it was her brother Sameer who used to cast for YRF) spotted him in a party.. she asked him if he's interested in acting. Later.. while listening the narration of Bitto she felt Ranveer is her Bitto.. she called him for an audition... & he bagged the role. If he was an outsider he would not have gotten that exclusive audition and favor from the casting director.

Talking about casting Ranveer Singh in Band Baja Baraat in an interview with Stardust, she swore that he was, after all, Bitto Sharma. "The minute I heard the character sketch of Bitto in Band Baja Baraat, I knew that he was tailor made for it. So, he went and auditioned, and bagged the role in his very first audition." Even though she knew him since he was 17, for he was frequent at the party circuit, it was imperative that she cast him in the right role. So, what if he had to wait for long? "The media was surprised by my choice, but I knew from the beginning that he will be a force to reckon with," justified Shanoo Sharma in an interview with The Hindu.

This is what I was thinking...how come people forget this connection? Even in KWK it was obvious that Ranveer has as much connections as Arjun. I mean he used to party with Arjun/Shanoo. Even if a family isnt directly involved with films thru acting, producing, directing that doesnt mean they dont have connections ie they know enough powerful people in BW to get a break. Ranveer is similar to Mohit Marwah and Armaan Jain where his parents arent directly into films but some relatives were/are and they know enough people to get a break.

He snuck into shaad Ali's party where shanoo sharma saw him dancing and asked if he wanted to be in films, ranveer said no becuz he he was going to study in USA. Whilst being in the USA he realised he wanted to be an actor and came back to mumbai, made a portfolio and started making appointments with casting directors and auditioning. He even had to go to horrible places and met with weird casting directors becuase nothing was working for him at the time.
When they were casting for BBB it was shanoo who suggested ranveer to Aditya chopra and she called ranveer.
They had a audition process for 20 days which ranveer passed and then he got the role.

Ranveer has said that he knew shaad Ali when he was younger and also spoke about other industry people he knew whilst growing up.

The same thing. You'd expect a casting director leaving 7 missed calls and a message for an outsider calling him for an audition. He knew her from his teens, Arjun and him were close from back then, that explains their bonding. He necessarily might not have been offered the role right when he returned from the US, but she always had him in her mind.
