Ashutosh Gowariker: The tallest structure in Mohenjo Daro was two-storey high

Jun 20, 2016, 05.44 PM IST

Before the British, before the Mughals, before Alexander, before Christ and Buddha and before India as we know it, there was Mohenjo Daro.
There were months and months of in-depth research that went into the creation of this pre-historic city, from the ground, upwards. A great deal of attention to the most intricate details to make this film as real as possible.

Here are a few things that mark the world of Mohenjo Daro.
1) Architecture was basic- The tallest house in Mohenjo Daro was just two-storey tall. While the town planning was highly accomplished, humans were yet to get into the splendor of architecture. Brick structures were there but there were no grand buildings and palaces. All the bricks were of the same size, be it in Mohenjo Daro or Harappa and Dholavira.
2) No Iron- This was before the Iron Age. The only metal that was used extensively was bronze. Copper found its way here from Mesopotamia. Iron was yet to be found and hence all tools, implements and weapons were made of flintstone.
3) No Gold ornamentation - Precious stones like Carnelian beads, Steatite beads, Ivory, Lapis Lazuli and many other river stones were used in ornamentation. Gold as a metal was just discovered in that era, but it did not find its way into the jewelery.
4) Barter system - There was no currency of any kind. Trade was carried out with the help of the Barter System, which was used for any exchange of goods - cotton exchanged with carnelian beads, indigo with wheat, Cows exchanged for bulls etc.
Ashutosh Gowariker along with his crew of the Hrithik Roshan starrer painstakingly created this whole new fascinating world of Mohenjo Daro in Bhuj, Kutch where they shot for the film.

Ashutosh throws light on the method of research on his film, "Since this was a make believe world so when I started my research, during the initial phase, I came across Mr. Jonathan Mark Kenoyer's books 'Ancient India: Land of Mystery' and 'Excavations at Mohenjo Daro'. I immediately got in touch with Mr. Kenoyer, Dept. of Anthropology, University of Wisconsin to seek his assistance. He has worked at the Mohenjo Daro excavation site for the past 35 years. To my good fortune, he agreed to participate to help me realize the true potential of the story on film. He then suggested to me other esteemed names who could give me inputs on the undeciphered Sindhu script, culture, the town planning and any and every other aspect that seems necessary. They were -R. S. Bisht, Ex-Director, ASI; Prof. Vasant Shinde Jt. Director, Puna University; Dr. P. Ajithprasad, Dept. of Archaeology and Ancient History, MSU, Baroda; K. Krishnan, Dept. of Archaeology, MSU, Baroda; and V.N.Prabhakar, Deputy Superintending Archaeologist, Aurangabad. It was wonderful that they could impart their study, analysis and knowledge to this project."
There is a lot of excitement among audiences to experience this captivating world of Mohenjo Daro on the big screen.
This epic romance, Mohenjo Daro stars Hrithik Roshan along with debutant Pooja Hegde. The film also stars Kabir Bedi and Arunoday Singh.
The film is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, presented by UTV Motion Pictures and Ashutosh Gowariker Productions, and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Sunita Gowariker.

Majority if the forum are overreacting about the trailer and the lack of history being showed. I'm sure Ashu has done his part of research and obviously as the story is fictional so it will be dramatic too.
Pooja well looks pretty and seems like has a short role but the chemistry might surprise as the trailer has hardly given any clue or hint about the love angle between the leads. All that's understood is Sarman will be on a mission to save Mohenjodaro

And don't know why ppl complain about the bg score because I found it exciting and it suited with the mood of the trailer

The trailer of filmmaker Ashutosh Gowarikar's much-awaited project "Mohenjo Daro", which brings a story from the medieval world on the silver screen, was launched on Monday. The trailer was released across Star TV networks as a roadblock on all channels and garnered massive views.

Here's the trailer:

The trailer of Hrithik Roshan-starrer was viewed by as many as 30 million people worldwide on channels across Star Networks. This is the first time Star Networks has extended such kind of support to any film. The trailer was played as a three minute full trailer via a roadblock on their network channels at 8:57 p.m., said a statement from the channel.

The trailer presents a glimpse to the epic saga with stunning visual effects and larger-than-life terrain.

Hrithik appeared rustic and fierce as promised through the first look of the film, which also features Pooja Hegde, Kabir Bedi and Arunoday Singh in key roles.

At a time when most trailers are launched at events, "Mohenjo Daro" team initiated a new marketing move and opted to unveil it through a global GEC (General Entertainment Channel) roadblock.

Written, produced and directed by Gowariker, the epic adventure-romance is set in the city of Mohenjo Daro in the era of the Indus Valley civilisation which dates back to 2600 BC.

Gowariker, who brought series "Everest" on the small screen last year, believes television is the fastest way to reach a wider audience.

"We are extremely thrilled with the positive response to the motion poster and first look posters of 'Mohenjo Daro' and couldn't wait to share the trailer. Television still continues to be one of the best and fastest way to reach out to viewers across age groups, segments and length and breadth of the country and in this case globally," he said.

"We thought it would be an ideal platform to release the film's trailer which deserves to be seen by all as part of a special roadblock across the Star Network. We also made the trailer available across digital platforms as well as part of the launch," he added.

Produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Sunita Gowariker, "Mohenjo Daro" is slated to release on August 12.

^^Wow. This is amazing? It hasn't been even 24 hours completely. I doubt if any trailer got such a massive response before.

I don't think the general audience, who are movie fanatics will even care about history accuracy at all.

i really didnt expect the Tv promotion to be like that i mean huge success at the end of the day people who watch tv and dont even care to comment on sites or social network is much bigger
any way the trailer will cross 2 million in around 1 day which is totally big
on other sites like indicine the trailer became the most views and comment in just two days this till how much people waiting for it
the response is positive not too much positve but its positive inly people whio are waiting for another Bahubali didnt like it
at the end of the day Ashu film dont have extraordinary trailers from lagan to JA his film talk and to be honest this is what i want
BB teaser is one of the best ever but the film is below the mark now its all about the wom and i will not forgive them if they give us abad film but for me i really trust them
and this film will cross 150cr with clash thats the point for me 😉
so ignore IF member and let the film talk
