I have always seen on this forum people commenting on stars that good looking, but cannot act. My question is, does anyone actually care?

Whether its Katrina, Siddharth or even a more senior stars like Aishwarya, Salman these are few examples, people go on and on about how they're SO BAD that watching their movies is like torture. In my opinion, I feel the general public would prefer someone who is easy on the eyes rather than someone who is an "actor". Even KJO said recently on Anupama's show that, you feel more bad for an actor, if its a good looking actor 😆

I mean, would you seriously go watch a movei with lets say...a Rajkumar Rao than Siddaharth Malhotra or Hrithik?...Would you really watch a movie with an unattractive female, compared to a Katrina or Ash?

And, do you think its bad if someone is recognized by their looks? I mean, is this not the entertainment industry? Are we "really" watching movies to look for good acting? Cant you do that at stage plays or broadway shows? I don't mean to sound superficial, just want to know what you all think about this topic :)

I only care if a non-actor starts ruining the movie and I can't see them as a character at all. That happens very rarely.

Its easier to get noticed if a star is good looking. Its a natural tendency to put good looking faces ahead of the rest. But after a point ONLY good looks gets tiresome. I mean how many times I can see the same pretty face and yet not cringe if the performance isnt atleast half decent.

I failed to understand why do these forum members think Salman Aish are bad actors?
They have given some amazing performances. Yes salman is doing more action movies now but why do people forget that he has given some great performances. He just give a award winning performance, dabbang 1 ( 2010 ) dabbang 2 ( 2012 ).

Aish is one mind blowing actress. One of the best actresses we had ever seen, raincoat, HDDCS, jodha Akbar, umrao jaan, Guzarish. She give amazing performances in all these movies.

Basically Salman Aish Hrithik all these people made it so far because of their acting as well.

Anyways thank god it's only in this forum because in outside world, the audience consider these actors good actors.

Depends on the role and film
Wont pay to watch Irrfan in ETT
neither would pay to watch Salman in Paan Singh

It's true that usually the looks is the first thing that gets people's attention. When they see a new star, their reaction is He's cute, or he's ugly. Or she's pretty, she's ugly.
Acting is definitely the 2nd thing people look at...🤔
I guess thats just how it is.
And stars on the other hand show off more with their body which gets them more fans🤔 so u can't really blame the public.

Looks can get an actor noticed but they definitely cannot solely make their career.

Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Kajol, Govinda, Mithun, Rani, SRK, Shatrughan Sinha, Ajay Devgan, Dimple Kapadia etc. are not conventionally perfect looking, yet they had a great career. Even Aamir is cute but is short, has big ears, bow legs, still he has given hits in every genre. Acting matters.

If only looks were criteria and acting did not matter then Urmila Matondkar, Twinkle Khanna, Sonali Bendre, Shilpa Shetty (after makeover), Diya Mirza, Aditi Govitrikar, Lisa Ray, other models and beauty contest winners who did films, Sonam Kapoor etc. would be superstars. Didn't Milind Soman do movies? Tell me one film of his that clicked! Even though people still remember him from his ads and music videos in 90s.

Kumar Gaurav was way more good looking than his father. Definitely looked better than Anil, Sunny etc. But he fizzled out. Bobby Deol looks better than Sunny. But his career is not comparable to the latter.

Vinod Khanna looked way better than Amitabh. But his career cannot be compared to him.

I don't think only makeover could have made Rekha the legend that she is. She equally brushed up her acting, dialogue delivery. Everything combined made her legendary.

It is only exception of Katrina Kaif who has survived and given so many hits with just minimal improvement in acting and without even knowing the language properly. But it doesn't mean only looks are enough and acting is not needed.
Sonam is beautiful and at least knows Hindi! Why doesn't she have a record like Katrina if only looks matter?

I disagree that Salman can't act. His acting was there to see in 90s movies and later in Tere Naam, Phir Milenge and Dabangg. He wouldn't have had any flops if it was just about style and looks. The Khans have earned goodwill over the years and can get away with so so performance as actors now.

Aishwarya Rai was great in HDDCS, Taal, Devdas, Guru. Good in JA. What else? She's not a non actor or bad actor.

I disagree you feel more for a good looking actor's tears than a "bad" looking one. Ajay is far from good looking but he nails it in emotional scenes. There are two super good looking people in HDDCS, but it doesn't mean the third one's pain wasn't noticed because his looks weren't comparable to other co stars.

I don't find Smita Patil or Sanjeev Kumar conventionally good looking but I am always moved by their acting.

It's always a combination of factors that endear a performer to audience. But I think if we had to choose one factor that was more helpful to an actor in his/her career in long run, then it would be acting.

Acting does matter if an actor/actress wants to be taken seriously as one and make a respectable career for themselves. Looks can only take you so far. I would say Katrina is the exception, not the rule. She's the only one that has managed to do well with no talent because no one really expects anything from her.
