Do heroines have any real star power in BW?

Why do they have a shorter shelf life compared to their male counterparts? People don't get tired of watching Khans, Akshay, Ajay etc for 20+ years, but star heroines of that era have fizzled out.

Salman can give strong opening with Daisy Shah, but Madhuri's both movies got pathetic opening.

Do they have loyal fanbase like male stars who fill the theaters on opening day? Are they crowd pullers when not paired with stars? Does any heroine have crowd pulling power today? katrina? Deepika?

Your thoughts.

Women have no substantial roles in movies. They are mainly eye candy or dancers. Men call the shots, both behind and front of the camera, story revolves around them which is why audience tolerates them even if they look old or no longer look as good and energetic as they did in their youth. Plus women take breaks after marriage and disappear from public eye, so they disappear from public consciousness too.
Dedh Ishqya, Gulab gang were offbeat films. Public pays for entertaining films.

Heroines have no loyal fanbase. Fans in theatres are loyal to jhatkas, beauty. Once someone else offers better eye candy they shift to her and forget others. Once in a while, a light hearted, entertaining, family film like English Vinglish makes good money. But mostly women oriented films are artsy/heavyweight stuff that nobody would bother watching even for free on TV.

The Khans have been regularly giving 100 crore grossers since last 5 years. Even with panned movies like Ra one and Jai ho. No heroine has that kind of power to draw audiences at box office.
Deepika had great last year, but simply on basis of consistency I would rate Katrina as a better draw at BO.

Female heroines definitely don't have the same star power or longevity as their male counter parts.
In the end it has too do with the screenplays available to them...there are very few really good female-centric scripts out there...or even scripts where the heroine gets to prove her mettle.

The majority of them are just eye-candy.

Even box office India said the same . There are no female super stars. But I beg to differ. Besharam gave 20 crore opening with pethetic songs and rubbish music , and jai ho joined 100 crores club with rubbish movie . If same movies we replace with deepika or katrina in actress place . It would have done atlest 50- 100 crores more . And every movie needs an actress with no actress a movie will be bore.

Yes those days are gone when we had films like Mother India. In today's times, not even a Beta gets made (predominantly a saas bahu drama). It all centers around men. They have even taken over roles of teachers in primary schools!

Men would have shorter shelf lives too if camera focused only on their latka-jhatkas, face and body contours. But story revolves around them so flab, wrinkled face, increasingly dheeli dance moves etc. Make no difference.

I think women also do not develop their personality much. This is why they do not even cut ice on TV and never get signature shows like Amitabh had with KBC. One should do more than simply smiling into the camera!
