Shah Rukh Khan's Fan to benefit from multiple holidays

After commercial entertainers like Chennai Express, Happy New Year and Dilwale, Shah Rukh Khan returns on the silver screen this April with YRF's Fan. SRK will be seen essaying the character of both superstar and a fan in the film, which is said to be an action thriller.

According to him, Fan is not a commercial film and will do well on the basis of word of mouth publicity. It seems YRF has planned the release date keeping in mind the multiple holidays in the first week over and above the regular Sunday.

The film will benefit thanks to a partial holiday on its opening day i.e. 15 April 2016, for Ram Navami. The Maneesh Sharma directorial will also get a boost with a partial holiday for Mahavir Jayanti in some parts of India on 19 April, 2016.

With a good word of mouth, Fancan make the most out of the two holidays. The film is a song-less thriller and revolves around a tiff between a superstar and a fan. Sources reveal,

"Fan is a tiff between Aryan and Gaurav. The battle gets intense with every passing minute. It is somewhat on the lines of Darr wherein Gaurav eventually might get all the public sympathy. People will find it tough to decide whose side they are on."

PS: It won't be a bad idea to release the film on 14 April 2016, as it will be a holiday in the southern part of the country due to Pongal and a holiday will be observed in other parts because it is also Ambedkar Jayanti.

Are they being compiled by the fans of SRK FC?

I think the film will be sympathetic to the fan and not to the star, they wont antagonize SRK's real fans by showing a fan in a negative light. The star will probably be shown in a more negative way.

Film will hit cinemas on 15th April but its campaign will start in the end of Feb or early March only which was the case with underplayed films of YRF i.e. 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' and 'Chak De! India'. This will be a treat for SRK fans as well as audience who yearn for quality films from stars. Box office might not be as big as some other Khan films but this should create ripple among quality cinema audience.

Shahrukh Khan got criticism for choosing films like HNY and 'Dilwale' back to back and so now he is changing tracks with content oriented films like 'Fan' and 'Raees' in 2016. 'Fan' has few really interesting similarities with 'Chak De! India' , probably one of the finest films of super star as an actor.

'Chak De! India' had very low key campaign and didn't have any leading actress opposite romance king. SRK had kind of rustic look and intense character based on a real life sportsman. 'Fan' too promises a different and tough double role for super star. 'Fan' is also a kind of non festive release, a first for Khan in last few years. Film is suppose to grow on word of mouth and reviews. Film might have a short focused campaign which will keep expectations in check.

'Chak De! India' not only did wonders at box office in long run but also fetched many awards and acclaim for Shahrukh as an actor. Similarly 'Fan' is directed by one of the finest under rated directors of our times Maneesh Sharma who gave industry a new star Ranveer Singh with 'Bnad Baaja Baraat'. Though he disappointed with 'Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl' but again gave a hearfelt film 'Shuddh Desi Romance'. So chances are high that he will extract a superlative act from star as superstar and his fan in the film.
