Why not just make it official? Why do these people then give out excuses like "no vacancy" or "we're busy"
See, if you aren't doing anything illegal or wrong, just put up a sign and make it official na. It's better that way then make people feel shitty about being denied upon the basis of their background.

Remember what happened to Paula Dean?😆...sometimes people want to discriminate and yet they don't want to be seen as doing so...because discrimination is wrong...thats why they choose to say something less offensive rather than just blurting out that ..hey I don't like u because u are a muslim..or black or gay...

The point here is that...Could Saif had been discriminated on the grounds that he is a muslim?? The answer is YES...

Does Saif have the right to raise his voice against that discrimination? The answer is ...Hell YES...he does...

Do celebs face discrimination? No. In fact celebrities in South Asia get away with lots of stuff. DUI, murder, killing endangered species, drunken brawls. They get special treatment almost everywhere and when they don't get it, their PR starts running stories about how they were mistreated because of celeb status. Some pull the religion card too for mere publicity.

Some do make it official and for others, it's sort of the 'unspoken word'. They come up with excuses instead of outright saying they are not comfortable with 'outsiders'. And the harsh truth is that people often do not stop at same community, there are also times when they will only rent out to people of the same caste. Definitely not always the case but it's very common.

Just to add - assuming the answer to your question is yes, the authorities can do very little about it because how does one prove such a thing? They can't force someone to sell their property to an individual right? Not saying I agree with the concept but I don't see a reversing trend in the near future.

Of course everyone faces discrimination but what separates the celebrities from the common man is the preferential and elitist treatment they get most of the time. So they can complain all they want but everyone knows that rich and famous can get away with anything in India.

In the case of Emraan, he spoke about it extensively. t=He didn't let his PR do the work for him. He took action because it IS a serious issue.
In the case of Shabana, she spoke about it as well.
Saif downplayed it he most. When it happened, back in 2007, it wasn't even common knowledge. He never spoke much about it.

But the point of this topic is, if a celeb is facing this kinda treatment, imagine the common man.
Which is what Shabana Azmi was emphasizing.

Good they spoke about it. Is there general discrimination? Yes. They were not discriminated because of celeb status. That was the point I was trying to make.

Everyone knows that the common man is the most discriminated in the society and scraping through the corruption everyday of their life. We really don't need celebrities to bring that to our notice, all we need to do is to just open our eyes to our surroundings. How is Shabana talking about the poor and then cutting her degrading slum cake on her bday going to help.

I think getting special Nawabi treatment in a democratic country is sad. Saif's family gets that. He should have refused that.
