Roaring was cringeworthy. Message was good. Too many fights. Loved the ending. Wacky logic didn't stop all his other movies from becoming BB's. Don't know why people aren't accepting that it was due to substandard promos and music that it didn't generate enough hype and underperformed + boycotting also played a key role and all that hullabaloo. Piracy was an issue as well, but people will say Salman fans are making excuses, so the less reasons the better.

Yes he was supposed to be an unstable character , but his dad did not like the name so he changed it, i think mental was more apt, then portraying him as a common mans hero !!

Stalin strikes gold
Salman Khan's next project Jai Ho (earlier titled Mental) is nearing completion, but the buzz in Tollywood is that the Bollywood film-makers acquired the remake rights of the original Telugu movie (Stalin) for a princely sum of Rs 4.3 crore. Though the agreement was signed last year, the final deal was struck recently.

Though director Sohail Khan denied paying such a huge amount to acquire the rights, sources in the know tell us that Stalin will go down in the history of South Cinema as the highest-paid movie to be remade in Hindi.

Stalin featured Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi and Trisha with Prakash Raj playing the villain. Released in 2006, it was one of the biggest blockbusters in the career of the actor-turned politician. The movie had collected more than Rs 30 crore at the box office back then. In fact, Stalin was the third last film in the career of Chiranjeevi before he plunged into active politics.

The movie was directed by Tamil film-maker A R Murugadoss following the stupendous success of Ghajini. After Stalin became a hit, Murugadoss became busy with the Hindi version of Ghajini. With Ghajini also turning a blockbuster, Murugadoss had planned to direct Stalin in Hindi. However, he got himself involved with many Tamil projects and since then Bollywood was keen on acquiring the Hindi remake rights of Stalin.

There were even talks of roping in Murugadoss for Salman Khan's Hindi version. But the ace director was preoccupied with the Vijay-starrer Thuppakki and decided to part with the Hindi remake rights.

"Nobody in Bollywood will reveal the price of the acquisition of the remake rights of South movies because of various factors. But, yes, it is true that Stalin is the first South film to have breached the Rs 4-crore barrier in selling remake rights. The previous highest sum was Rs 3.5 crore for a popular Tamil movie," said a person, who is associated with the remake deals between South and Mumbai.

Salman Khan's career got a fillip has seen an upswing ever since he started remaking popular

Sohail went down south to look for a Masala movie to remake, maybe Stalin was the only option he had 😆

But i must say Chiranjeevi was good as the calm people's man in Stalin 👏 Salman as a common man is little to much to digest.

Telugu movie Hits and Flops of 2006

One more year (2006) has gone into the history of Telugu film industry aka Tollywood. 2006 has come and gone with a few hits and many flops. This year has also seen many flops and a few hits in the dubbed versions.
This year 110 straight Telugu movies have been released when compared to the 135 movies released in 2005, but the box-office has seen much more money than last year. 88 dubbed versions have come to Tollywood in which only few made it at the box-office. Last year i.e. 2005 saw major hits in the dubbing category. So our producers and directors came back with a bang with straight movies and showed the talent of Tollywood.

This year our producers and directors have followed the Bollywood principle of releasing the movies with maximum prints and first week collections, which proved to be successful. The first half (January to June), this year has seen more number of hits than the second half (July to December).

Box office collections (*In order of success)

MOVIE BUDGET (in crores) GROSS (in crores)
Pokiri 12 40
Stalin 20 18
Bommarillu 6 25
Lakshmi 12 20
Vikramarkudu 10 16
Devadasu 7 14
Sri Ramadasu 12 12
Andala Ramudu 4 12

It was Below average/flop didnt ever recover its cost.

4500 screens and just barely crawled its way to 100cr, that is a flop in the publics mind, now you can call it anything you want, as digesting the cold hard facts is unbearable, trade have about 100 different labels to describe the box office performance of a film, but all that matters is whether it was a hit or flop, and this definitely is no hit. 😆
