Why are BW fans obsessed with the Khan's age - Page 2

Their age isn't a problem to me. Older men can still be attractive. My issue is the double-standards that Bollywood has. Madhuri does a song like Ghagra today and a section of the audience thinks she's too old for it now. While the Khans are 40+ and romancing girls half their age and also playing characters half their age. And apparently that's completely okay.

The sad reality is that actresses have a shelf life. But the Khans don't seem to. Even if they make some very bad movies. At this point in their careers, they can do some really amazing movies and yet Salman especially chooses to churn out the same formulaic masala movies all the time.

As for playing the right age group, shouldn't we blame that on the writers? BW just doesn't have great writers! I would love for them to start playing age appropriate roles but until they find great writers who can do justice to 40+ storylines! Let them do what they are doing(and by this I mean Aamir playing collage kid not SRK and Salman's mindless movies, that need to stop asap!)

I don't agree with that. Aishwarya maybe. But Rani and Preity - definitely not. There's this preconceived notion that once an actress gets married, she "retires" and newer ones replace her. Actresses don't really go by themselves. They phase out. They're replaced.

Rani had a huge string of flops right from Baabul to Laag Churani Mein Daag to Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, Dil Bole Hadippa, Aiyyaa. She tried really hard to stay in Bollywood for as long as she could. Except for Talaash and NOKJ, she hasn't had much success recently.

Preity Zinta's Ishkq in Paris last year flopped terribly.

Karishma Kapoor had a terrible flop as well - Dangerous Ishhq.

It's not that all of these actresses don't want to pursue a career. I think Rani, Preity, Karishma would act if they were given the right opportunities. But they're not accepted by the Indian audience in mainstream cinema anymore. And that's sad. India is ageist and sexist.

So is that saying that if tomorrow they announced that karishma is starring in a movie with salman nobody would go to see it? I think the movie would get an astounding response becuz they r an iconic couple, I don't think the audience would reject these actresses if they got the chance to act with the khans again, it's the producers and the directors who insist on having newer actresses with them.
