Absolutely.
But did Amir do it in the first ten years of his career?
Of course, there were not enough good movies made back then, but still. Look at the movies he started with. Embarrassing. SRK-Salman were doing better films then.
But Ranbir, took a risk with a de-glam movie like Rocket Singh in the beginning of his career. This guy is something else, in my opinion.
And Ranbir is still young. Building up goodwill takes a lot of time. Give him a few more years, and let the Khans subside, he will be right there.
But Amir definitely has a lot more goodwill than anyone else, no doubt.
I'm no Aamir fan, but if I look back at his films from the 90's, they're even better than what he did post-Lagaan IMHO. It's just he got more fame later in life...and his films started performing better then too. JJWS, Sarfarosh, AAA, Rangeela. I loved Ishq, Ghulam, Hum Hain rahi Pyar Ke and all too. The big huge success of 90's with Aamir was his worst film ...Raja Hindustani. Besides the songs, I cannot find one reason why that awful film worked. His very early ones post QSQT, then I haven't seen many of them, but overall in terms of memorable films, Aamir definitely has the upper hand on the other aging stars in his generation.
In terms of goodwill, Aamir, SRK, and Ajay had pretty good to decent goodwill in the audience. Salman was always too topsy turvy...but even he used to have some goodwill, which he killed in 2000's. SRK and Ajay have killed theirs too.
Hmm, I don't think a film with YRF and the writer/director team of Chak De India is a risk at all tbh. Barfi I would consider a risk. WUS to some extent also, but not RS. But yes, I think Ranbir is fine...and he'll last too, but I was just saying that his goodwill does not and cannot compare to the kind Aamir has today.
