Karan Johar's Dharma Productions is a force to reckon with. After numerous successful films over the many years, they went one step ahead with the All Time Blockbuster YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI earlier this year. So, expectations from Dharma's next film are bound to be huge!
GORI TERE PYAR MEIN re-unites the pairing of Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor after EK MAIN AUR EK TU (which was also produced by Dharma). It also re-unites Imran Khan and director Punit Malhotra after the successful I HATE LUV STORYS (also produced by Dharma). And of course, it re-unites Karan Johar with Imran Khan (KJO-Imran combo best remembered for I HATE LUV STORYS) and Kareena Kapoor (KJO-Kareena combo best remembered for KABHI KHUSHI KABHI GHAM) respectively.
Can GORI TERE PYAR MEIN work at the box office? That is the question!
The trailer of GORI TERE PYAR MEIN was released in September and overall received a good response. The trailer's response wasn't as positive as the trailer for YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI, but that could also be due to the fact that Ranbir and Deepika are two of the biggest stars in Bollywood today whereas Imran and Kareena have been going through some rough times lately in terms of not being able to find success. But, overall, the response to the trailer for GORI TERE PYAR MEIN has been good.
A huge factor that goes into make a rom-com work is the music of the film. In this case, it has worked in favor for GORI TERE PYAR MEIN. The songs may not be the super-chartbusting songs that YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI had, but the songs are "hit" material nonetheless!
So, even though Imran and Kareena have been going through a bad phase lately due to the flop films that they have been in, I feel that this film will be their comeback of sorts!
Opening wise, the film should get a decent-strong opening due to Karan Johar-Dharma factor, Imran Khan (he can pull the crowd in the cities to theatres), Kareena Kapoor (she has star power too even though she has just been going through a bad phase box office wise), the songs, and the romantic genre which has been working really well this year. Opening will be strong at multiplexes and big cities, while it will be comparitavely lower in single screens and small towns. However, the opening even in the smaller areas won't be "bad" because of the massy flavor in some of the songs, especially "Chingam Chabake", and the village setting in parts of the film, so audience in smaller areas will come too to watch the film.
After the opening weekend (which should be atleast decent), I think the film will remain fairly steady by having atleast a decent WOM. The urban youth may like the film and audience in smaller centers may also actually give some appreciation to this film with the village setting and some massy songs. The film may not click with family audience as there is some mention about sex workers in the promo.

Opening Day: 8 crores net
Opening Weekend: 30 crores net approx.
Lifetime Collections: 50+ crores net
Overall Box Office Verdict: Hit
