And its ridiculous to even suggest that Shahrukh ...the benchmark of BW would try to copy one of his contemporaries😆...Every newcomer for the last 20 years is compared to SRK to measure their success...its not the other way around😆

I agree, but are you scolding me or agreeing with me? Didn't get it. 😆

Anyways ... even if everyone's trying to be like Salman, doubt it takes a lot. Just act less, look good and show more attitude. You're good to go.

Well, yeah they are b/c the formula works. However, to be fair, Ajay brought up this great point in an interview where he said that 90s BW cinema was like this and somewhere along the way (early 2000s) everyone wanted to make more "foreign-inspired", "intelligent", "HW-esque" movies and that didn't connect with the audience, hence the higher flop to blockbuster ratio. I still remember 2001 or 2002 was the year that BW had the highest amounts of flops ever. On the other hand, the South Indian filmmakers kept making these sort of commercial films and they raked in a lot of money. And now everyone is re-making South Indian movies. Salman was one of the first to do it but it really wasn't HIS trend. It existed long before and he just brought it back.

I think there are 3 types of newcomers/heros: the commercial/masala cinema poster-boy, the romantic lead, and the serious actor. These are basically the 3 genres and from what I gather most of the superstars dabble in all 3 at some point but the 100 crores + is (as of now) basically from the masala genre. So don't blame everyone for going in this direction. But I do think most of the leading actors either go the Salman-way (masala) or the SRK-way (romance).

Also, CE was one of the more "romantic" masala flicks. Probably b/c it had SRK so RS increased the romance factor or maybe b/c SRK is just that look that one glare gives me goosebumps...but it was def a twist or slightly different from the usual masala flicks.

A flowerpot is not meant for decoration, its an exaggerated term that just means that the actress does not have to put in any effort for the role itself and that the role is not special in any way; and can be replaced by anyone. It also has nothing to do with how "long" an actress is on screen-for or whether they are the main lead or not. Its about the effort that goes into the role.
From your description it seems like Kareena in Ra1 and Priyanka in Don were just fancy flowerpots...Unless you want to argue that their roles are compareable to Fashion and Jab We Met?
There are many movies where the actress is present all through-out the movie, but the role itself is very basic and flowerpot-ish...such as Katrina in most of her movies.

I don't know why your getting so uptight and whiney about SRK being mentioned, I just used him as an example, so get over it.

Short answer Yes

Long answer don't blame them in show business it's easier to imitate than innovate

Salman did a rural action comedy and then everyone followed

Even Srk 20 years ago did the great nri love story DDLJ and people tried to copy that

Sadly there are too may imitators in bollywood rather than innovators

Then we get Innovations like Barfi that just turn out to be imitations of several movies 😆

But then you can also argue that Salman/Ajay did a lot of romantic films in the late 90s to early 2000s b/c SRK was leading the pack in that genre.

Or now everyone is doing more action/superhero movies b/c of Dhoom series or HR.

It's not copying but more of trying something new b/c it works. Like you said before, even though SRK did CE--he brought the romance factor that a lot of masala flicks don't emphasis as much. It's usually a few dance items and 2-3 silly sequences. But Deepika-SRK were like in almost every frame. It honestly felt like DDLJ all over again but with a twist. 😆

@ bold - That's what it seems like. It's popular, it's trendy now, and now seems like the right time for many actors to get on the bandwagon if they haven't already. For instance, a few short years earlier, hot vampires were the flavor of the season. With Twilight, came a bunch of other vampire movies and shows. Twilight wasn't the first vampire movie, it just brought vampires back into vogue but this time with alluring bloodsuckers instead of old school Nosferatu- kind of vampires. Even Fekta Maiya got in on the trend with her Twilight/Vampire Diaries mashup Pyaar Ki Yeh Ek Kahaani for Indian TV. Right now masala is the most popular genre for BW.

Going by ur definition of flower pot roles...we can say that the heroes in 95% of the masala movies are also FLOWERPOTS...since they are present through out the movie and do nothing substantial...there u go😆😆...
