Don't mean to start a fan war or anything, but to me it seems like everyone is on that "commercial" masala tip after Salman's consecutive successes. Dabang, Ready, Bodyguard, ETT, Dabang-2
I've noticed after his success in this genre, that everyone sort of started doing the same type of movies and ideas...The typical "hero" with catchy songs and a female actress whose a flowerpot.
Whether its Akshaye Kumar- Rowdy Rathore, Ajay Devgan- Singham, or recently Shahid- PHNH, some even say SRK did it with CE...It just seems like theyre all trying to cash in on the trend and get that 100 crore movie...Some failed and some passed, but it just seems like they are all trying to be something they are not. Even Saif is trying it with Bullet Raja 🤢
Ajay Devgan is someone who used to do very substance based roles, who suddenly sides more with commercial films like Golmal, Singham, BB...Even though he has tried some serious/different movies like Satyagraha, those movies are flopping.
Then there is Akshay who was stuck in comedy mode for so long, and finally somewhat manged to break out of it.
Who do you think is playing the smartest? Do you think everyone IS actually copying Salman? or are they doing it better than him? Did Salman "really" start the trend? Do you think its okay to do so because it keeps the star relevant? OR should someone like Shahid focus on their forte and not try hard to do something they cant?
Please share😊

Big difference...In SRK's movies...the actress never has a flowerpot role...its equal to or sometimes even better than SRK's own role...so no flower pot roles...ur comparison for SRK failed right there...
Another thing...A GENRE IS BIGGER THAN A STAR...let Salman or Akshay or Ajay make a Blockbuster with a movie like CDI and then we will talk...MASALA SELLS...and since SRK was being written off as his movies which belonged to other genres not as popular...he rightfully decided to do the masala genre and the rest is history...
So neither SRK nor Salman are bigger than the masala genre...u give the public what it wants...and u earn money at BO...simple rule...but seriously I want SRK to go back doing Swades and CDI and earn a 100 cr...that's fine with me...

Wasn't Kareena a flowerpot in Ra.One? I haven't seen that movie but I didn't hear anything about it being a "pathbreaking role"
Or what about Don and Don2? Was Priyanka anything great in it? I didn't see those either.

I'm reading a lot that Shahid was 'trying' to be Salman in PPNH ... Honestly don't get what that means ... Don't know about others...but if you have time to see the movie, you will realize he was playing a fan. It was his character -- it was shaped that way. How was he trying to be like Salman?
Blame the director for wanting the character to be like 'Salman'. 😆

An actresses role doesn't have to be path breaking...a flowerpot role is something that is just for decoration and the story can be completed without that role...Kareena's was the main role in Ra-I...parallel to Shahrukh's...similarly in DON...Priyanka's role may not have been very long but it was not there for decoration...she played one of the main characters...what are u even talking about...and everyone knows about Deepika in CE...😆

MASALA GENRE doesn't belong to Salman and neither has he started it...infact Big B's movies in the 80's were mostly masala and had made him the super star...Right now masala is the most popular genre...and Salman cashed on it...😆

nobody presents their ladies as beautifully as srk in his movies. and yes, the ladies are not mere flower pot, they have meaty roles...even kareena in ra 1 came out shining. never before she had such a jhatka song picturised on her. first in yeh mere dil then chammak challo...both roking.

Trends change from time to time with genres; romantic, comedy, action etc and nowadays it's the masala. At one time Akshay was ruling with comedy genre and that was a trend

So I don't think everybody's trying to be Salman at present but they're all following a trend of masala flavour which btw generates 100 cr at BO if they have all the elements right

I guess it's all about going with the flow. At the end of the day, they are in the film industry to make money.

SRK decides to do a CE, but balances it with JTHJ.
Akshay Kumar does a RR, but balances it with Special 26.
Saif does a Cocktail and is trying something relatively different (according to his filmography) with Bullet Raja.
Ajay Devgn does Singham and Himmatwala and tries to balance them with Satyagraha.
Shahid is trying his hand in similar type of films with Rambo Rajkumar
Salman is Salman (with Wanted, Dabangg, Bodyguard, etc) but it seems like even he is attempting to show variety with Sooraj Barjatya's next
Aamir is known as the 'thinking actor' and is still coming in a movie like Dhoom 3, which IMO is just a "classier" version of Dabangg or RR
Heck...even Ranbir is trying his hand at this kind of 'genre'...this guy has mostly played the 'urban youth' roles and something along those lines but now he's trying something new with Besharam.

I guess some will pull it off convincingly while some won't...we won't really know until the film releases and some kind of a verdict is out. I think they're all playing it smart by giving these kinds of movies a shot...if they succeed, then good for them. If they don't, then they'll probably just move on to kind of roles they're already good at or something entirely different. If everyone was to stick to their forte, then they wouldn't really be versatile, would they?

I don't exactly think they're copying Salman. As Blue-Ice mentioned a genre is bigger than a star. That's what I believe. I think other actors may be trying their hand in masala commercial films simply because those have proved to be well liked by the masses, regardless of lame storylines or bad acting. So maybe not trying to emulate Bhai, but just trying to see how they fare in that genre as well.
