Dunno why everyone on this thread is getting jittery about RL...on the contrary, I think the way the campaign has been built up, the film could not look any better now! I wasn't sure about it till a few weeks back, but now I think, unless something really drastic happens with the script or the actor's performances are totally below standard, the film has every reason to do very well at the BO.
There is no comparsion with films like Krrish and D3...their budget is atleast thrice that of RL and they have far bigger stars in them...so the pressure on K3 and D3 is atleast ten times than that on RL!
For K3 to be even declared average (that is no loss), it has to make more than 100 crores...but if RL manages 60 to 75 Crores, it will be considered a clean hit and if it manages to touch 100 C...it will fall in the BB category!
Also, the trade and industry has moderate expectations from RL...they know it is good and it will do well, but they don't have the kind of expectation that they have from K3 and D3...hence, even if RL breaks even, it will still be lauded!
Considering that the film has been made on a budge of 35 crores (though it has been sold at a high price, I have heard), the buzz for the film is super strong! A good opening and a good weekend is all it needs to sail through! Afterwards, anything will be the icing on the cake! This is clearly not the case for K3 and D3 which will have to sustain the momentum for a few days.
The timing of the film's release could have been better, but given the circumstances, I think its excellent. It has a clear 15 days after Krrish 3...enough time for the film's fever to subside a bit and one whole week before GTPM (which lets face it has no buzz at all, even if its a KJo Production!)...if it manages to attract attention in that one week, then GTPM will be no competition at all!
Lets wait for the previews and see what the Industry thinks...though unlike hollywood, our industry is very sycophantic...they rarely give bad reviews, because most of them know each other as friends or business acquaintances.
So, I think we will have to wait for the independent / critics review to assess where the film stands.
PS: Zara, I would not really care for Aditya Narayan's views on RL...he is one of the AD's of the film, what else do you expect him to say?😆 And Jha is one of SLB's best buddies...he was the only one who gave a 5 star rating to Saawariyaan, when every other critic trashed it! I would rather wait for the likes of Anupama and Masand to give their views!
