Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara: 1st Tuesday Box Office Collections

August 21st, 2013 by Koimoi.com Team

While Chennai Express took maximum advantage yesterday, all thanks to the Rakshabandhan, by giving out one ticket free, for every two tickets of the film, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara! however failed to make use of this semi-holiday to the fullest.

Akshay Kumar And Sonakshi Sinha in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara! Movie Stills

This Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi Sinha-Imran Khan starrer saw a drop in fact on its 1st Tuesday rather than picking up! OUATIMD witnessed an average occupancy on Day 6 and as per early estimates, it made a business of approx 3.80 crores at the Domestic Box Office. The movie now stands at a domestic total of about 48.90 crores at the Box Office.

OUATIMD, which had huge expectations, is struggling hard to make its mark at the Domestic as well as Overseas Box Office. Despite getting enough screen counts, the audiences are still flocking to watch Chennai Express, that released a week before OUATIMD!

So OUATIM 2 will not touch 100 crores

That leaves BMB , race 2 , YJHD , and CE for 2013.

I believe Krrish 3, Dhoom 3 and besharam will join it

Akshays Khiladi 786, special 26, and this film didn't cross 100 crore so I doubt boss can

There is sunny deals Singh Saheb but I doubt it can do it

So there will seven 100 crore films this year . Less than last year and people say its easy for film to cross this number 😆😆

100 crore is the silver jubilee of new bollywood and 200 crore is golden jubilee 😉

Ashdoc's movie review---Once upon a time in Mumbai dobara
The number of Films that are being made based on Dawood !!---One wonders if he is bankrolling them to get maximum publicity for himself...

But this one makes a mockery of the great Don...

For instead of running his illegal empire coldheartedly , it shows him falling in love and giving too much importance to a woman...

Akshay Kumar plays Shoaib ( loosely based on Dawood ) , the Don who is so powerful that he can even turn the lights off in all of Mumbai , or so he boasts...

Problem is---Akshay Kumar's voice simply lacks the punch , and his acting lacks the depth needed to make a real impression on the audience...
His portrayal must be the weakest one of the Don , especially after seeing the performance of Ranadeep Hooda in D and Rishi Kapoor in D Day...

And I suddenly realised that I was missing an actor I disliked---Eemraan Hashmi , who played the budding Don with supreme confidence in the earlier version of ' Once upon...' .

As if to compensate for the lack of punch in his acting and his voice , the director shows Akshay ( Shoaib ) mouth too many airy dialogues---just too many of them...
But they don't hide Akshay's lack of acting skills , but in fact only serve to highlight them...

So Akshay tries pitifully to fit into the shoes of the great Don , and while doing so falls in love with a budding starlet played by Sonakshi Sinha...

But she does not receprocate , but falls in love with his henchman ( played by Imran Khan )...

All this while however , she has been hanging out with both in a manner that one make one believe that she is two timing both of them and toying with both...

So a love triangle develops , and the big question is---who will get her in the end ??

Who cares ?? Neither of them is worth it , judging from their acting skills...
Nor is Sonakshi worth fighting for , at least in my opinion...
Nor is the film worth watching...

Meanwhile Shoaib's rival Rawal ( played by Mahesh Manjrekar ) brings the situation to a boil by shooting Sonakshi---of course , he is only repaying his debt , for Shoaib and his henchman have tried to kill him on numerpus occasions and succeeded in only killing his girlfriend...

So the Don and his henchman and the rival don have to fight it out over their grudges over women---and the audience has to yawn while struggling to keep awake to find out who emerges triumphant in the end...

But whoever emerges triumphant in the end , the audience is certainly the loser---for it wasted its hard earned money on seeing this film...

Meanwhile the police are also closing in---they already tried once by using Shoaib's other henchman Jimmy as cat's paw...But Shoaib tracked and shot dead Jimmy ( who was innocent ) even though police were around him while mouthing another airy fairy dialogue , thus showing his legendary cruelty...
This Akshay Kumar acted legendary cruelty is supposed to make us quake in our books , but it doesn't...Yawn...

So what happens in the end ?? Don't watch the movie for that...

I got so bored ( actually bored is not the right word for it---hindi has a nice word for it called thakela ) while watching the movie that I took three days after watching the movie to even think about starting to write a review of it...

And the very fact that I am writing a review inspite of my thakela mood is due to my commitment to those who read my reviews...

Verdict---Disappointing .

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara Collections Go Below Chennai Express

Thursday 22nd August 2013 10.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

The collections of Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara went below Chennai Express over the Raksha Bandhan period. The film got a lift over the two day period but not as much as Chennai Express as the appreciation is not there.

The film had better collections on Monday but Chennai Express showed bigger jumps over the Tuesday and Wednesday holiday period as each circuit jumped more when it had its holiday be it Tuesday or Wednesday.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai collected around 8.50 crore nett on Tuesday and Wednesday which is 2 crore nett lower than Chennai Express. Despite the limited jump it has ensured the film at least manages to collect 50 crore nett plus in week one.

Sonali she's beautiful.. she should do more movies.. Akshay's dialogues were pretty good.. Sonakshi in the ending was like some aatma went in her or something.. so so weird..😕 2/5

Haha that end scene where Sonakshi is screaming at Akshay is truly awful! I said it in my review as well that it sounds like a Jin has gone in her 😆

Once Upon a Time In Mumbai Dobaara Grosses 51 Crore In Week One

Friday 23rd August 2013 10.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara collected 51 crore nett in its extended first week of 8 days. The collections would gave been just about respectable if it was a normal seven day week and not an extended eight day holiday week.

The film has suffered on all accounts, it had a bad release, competition from a very successful film and above all the appreciation was not there.

The film has not done well anywhere while circuits where Chennai Express is a phenomenal hit like West Bengal and Mysore the business of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara is just awful. The second week has seen multiplex shows go down to four on average which means the won't gross much more than 60 crore in its run.

The single screen business for the film is also mediocre but that has a lot to do with the fact the film has a bad chain of single screens. If the film had played on good single screens it could have put up decent figures especially at the muslim centres.
