| Things couldn't have been better for Kareena Kapoor. Just after being flooded with appreciations for her act in 'Omkara' she has bagged another film that would take her a step further. She has just signed Mani Ratnam's new film 'Lajjo' with none other than Aamir Khan. This is for the first time Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan will be working together. The film is based on Ismat Chugtai's period love story and Bebo has all teeth into it. She will begin preparing herself for the role from November 2006 onwards though the film will begin shooting from January 2007. This is her second film where she works in a literary adaptation back to back after 'Omkara'. "I'm glad I've arrived at this new phase in my career so effortlessly. It's every actress' dream to work with Aamir. I'm a huge fan of his. Mani is definitely one of the most special directors I've worked with. When he contacted me to do Lajjo I couldn't believe my luck. This was just what I wanted to do after Omkara. I don't want to do any other film before Lajjo. To work with Mani again and Aamir for the first time is like a double bonanza for me. I'm doing an intense love story with Aamir and I can't wait to start," she says excitedly. | Copyright 2006 by MusicIndiaOnLine.com
| Priety rises with a fall! By MIO Team Aug 08, 2006, 08:03
| This is a trivia for cine-buffs and a superstitious belief for Preity Zinta. Preity is of the notion that whenever she falls in a film the outcome is a meteoric rise in her career with the film turning a super hit. So a fall is a must during the shooting of the film to claim a box office success. While shooting for Karan Johar's 'Kabhie Alvida Naa Kehna' in London and Mumbai the crew waited for her to fall, but unfortunately she didn't fall in London. Karan got worried and others started praying. The lucky day came through in Mumbai where shooting for the song 'Where is the party tonight' she toppled and fell while trying a leap with Abhishek. "You should have seen the smile on Karan and Abhishek's face! It's almost as if they had wished my fall." Preity says that the film is her best performances till date. "Karan had held a special trial of the film and after watching it, I was at a loss for words. Usually, whenever I watch his films, I always call him immediately to give him my feedback. But this time I took a day to get back to him. Rani has been performing really well since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Also, I feel that Kirron Kher is the surprise package in KANK, watch out for her," says Preity. | Copyright 2006 by MusicIndiaOnLine.com

| Traffic Signal comes to a halt By MIO Team Aug 08, 2006, 08:03
| Madhur Bhandarkar recently suffered heavy losses as his film 'Traffic Signal' got stalled due to heavy rains in Mumbai. Besides the monetary losses he has lost two days and now will have to re-arrange his actors' dates. Narrating his dilemma he says, "I had around 40 actors, including those from theatre and TV, for my schedule. The worst part is that managing these actors' dates to shoot for one or two days, will be a Herculean task. We had booked so many imported cars, BEST buses, auto rickshaws, taxis and shooting equipment like cranes, steady camps etc. These are not easy to arrange. Rain has really hampered my schedule," he says. | Copyright 2006 by MusicIndiaOnLine.com
| Emraan Hashmi raising eyebrows again! By MIO Team Aug 09, 2006, 09:38
| Emraan Hashmi knows to keep himself in news. He is touted as serial kisser and most of the times his scenes in the film calls for media attention. So far Emraan has excelled in roles with gray shades. From 'Footpath', 'Murder', 'Tumsa Nahin Dekha', 'Zeher', 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne', 'Chocolate', 'Kalyug', 'Jawani Diwani', 'Aksar' and 'Gangster' he had negative shades in his character. For his forthcoming film 'Dil Diya Hai' he is not doing anything path breaking, as he once again appears in negative light. But yes the limit to which he turns baddie surely raises eyebrows. In the film he sells his girlfriend newcomer Geeta Basra to a UK based brothel owner Ashmit Patel who wants her at any cost. Surely there is no limit to which Emraan can go! | Copyright 2006 by MusicIndiaOnLine.com

Rekha then, Aishwarya now! By MIO Team Aug 09, 2006, 09:38
| Two decades back Rekha has eternalized Muzaffar Ali's 'Umrao Jaan' in 1981 donning the role of poetess and courtesan. Needless to say it is one of the career best performance of the actress. Her dramatics, dances and renditions of Urdu poetry have got immortalized in the minds of the people. Aishwarya Rai walks on her route for the forthcoming epic 'Umrao Jaan' directed by J.P. Dutta. Both of them are gorgeous and have carved a niche for themselves in the industry. But comparisons with Rekha are inevitable as Aishwarya tries to fit in her shoes for the remake of the epic film that will hit the theatres in the mid-October. Needless to add her beauty makes her the ideal choice of the role. She reprises the role once again. Director J.P. Dutta claims that his film is not a remake of the former one, but is an original take on the courtesan's life with the script by his father O.P. Dutta. The only similarity between the two films is that both of them are tragic love story of Umrao Jaan. He adds that Aishwarya has given her own interpretation to the character and hasn't tried to match up to Rekha. | Copyright 2006 by MusicIndiaOnLine.com

| Box office flooded with flops By MIO Team Aug 09, 2006, 09:38
| The gleaming phase that box office tasted sometime back seems to have come to a halt. The last films that have hit the theatres have all been tagged as flops. Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi jodi failed to work wonders like 'Munnabhai MBBS' as audiences preferred to keep away from 'Anthony Kaun Hai'. Though it was a decent film with chic direction by Raj Kaushal, good performances laced with humour, yet the film didn't get a good opening. 'Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar' and 'Darwaza Bandh Rakho' sank without a trace in the box office. Among the other release Rohit Shetty's laughathon 'Golmaal' has been declared a super-hit in the Mumbai and is said to have grossed a whopping Rs 69 Crores. 'Omkara' has been well appreciated and has received best reviews. Business of the film is gradually picking up in Mumbai. Although, it's doing well in metros like Mumbai and Delhi, reports are not encouraging in the interiors of India. However the overseas market is witnessing an encouraging trend. The wait is now on this Friday as trade pundits are looking optimistically forward to Karan Johar's 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna'. With Shahrukh and Karan at the helm, we are waiting for no less! | Copyright 2006 by MusicIndiaOnLine.com
| Sanjay Dutt has reasons to be anxious By MIO Team Aug 09, 2006, 09:38
| Actor Sanjay Dutt is getting more anxious as August 10 is drawing near. It is the date for the final verdict on the 1993 Mumbai blast case and he is one of the accused in the case. The court announcement came through on July 27, the same day the music of 'Anthony Kaun Hai?' was launched which he avoided attending. He exempted himself from the lavish celebrations of his birthday on July 29 and also stayed away from the promotion of the film. He also skipped his St Lawrence School reunion on August 5. His worried friends and family members are adding to his anxiety. Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, who is one of Dutt's closest friends says, "His close friends and family members are tense about the verdict as we all love him so much and want to know what happens. Sanju is calm, as he knows he has done no wrong. He has nothing to worry about. Sanju has become a recluse all of a sudden." | Copyright 2006 by MusicIndiaOnLine.com

| Sonu Nigam's special for the Independence Day By MIO Team Aug 07, 2006, 08:41
| With his symphonious voice Sonu Nigam has carved a niche for himself in the industry and a place in the heart of millions of music buffs. He has a successful singing career with innumerable hit songs under his belt in playbacking and Indi pop music. He has always stretched himself for the cause of humanity. This time he pays his tribute to Mother India on the Independence Day that falls on 15th August with his new song 'Yeh Rashtra Prem Ki Bhavna'. The song has been dedicated to the Mumbai blast victims and as well holds the appeal to stir your heart with the rendition. Says Sonu, "I was working on this song much before the unfortunate 7/11 incident happened. This is a patriotic song aimed at connecting to the masses especially the youth today. The song is very different in the sense it's not an album; it's a 'single' only on the Internet without any company involvement. You can have it as a ring tone or a caller tune. It is composed by Deepak Pandit and we mainly want to connect to people through the mobile. It's just like the assemblies or 'prathanas' we used to have in our school days. Also it's very apt for the Independence Day. It's a patriotic song mainly targeted to youngsters today who are a lot more cool, open and a chilled out. It's got to do with generating awareness about our country. Patriotism is not about 'right' or 'wrong'. It's about our efforts in making our country the best. We want to propagate humanity and freedom through this song." MTV, Channel V, Radio city and Zee have come forward to promote the song understanding its significance. Radio Mirchi and Times group have given Sonu a standing ovation for it. It's truly a great work, but the great singer Sonu Nigam! | Copyright 2006 by MusicIndiaOnLine.com
| Reshammiya's 'Dil Diya Hai' worth a miss By IANS Aug 07, 2006, 08:51
| It seems Himesh Reshammiya (give us a break) has run out of tricks. Another film score and the same mundane effort. Though he tries his best to be different - at times even trying to sound like a Sufi singer - he fails miserably. One fails to understand why he refuses to change his style - he has been sounding the same in almost all his recent songs. 'Dil diya' by Reshammiya and Himani is the opening track of the album. Reshammiya is in his usual self - changing pitches all of a sudden while maintaining his nasal tone. Even Himani's husky voice fails to do any good to this number. 'Mile ho tum to' is another forgettable duet sung by Reshammiya and Tulsi Kumar. Though the lyrics are of a happy number, it turns out to be one of agony and depression. Reshammiya then croons a solo 'Yaadan teriyan', fusing keyboards with tabla but the result is the same. The non-Reshammiya numbers - 'Chalo dildar chalo' by Hemchandra, Vinit and Himani, and 'Jabse aankh ladi' by Alisha Chinai and Jayesh - fails to break the monotony. There is another Reshammiya-Tulsi number 'Afsana banake bhool na jaana' but nothing worthy can be said of this number either. All the six songs have been remixed by DJ Akbar Sami. The film, directed by Aaditya Datt, stars Emraan Hashmi (give us a break, you too), Ashmit Patel, Mithun Chakravorty and newcomer Geeta Basra. Reshammiya seemed to be pretty okay in his compositions for 'Tere Naam', 'Jodi No. 1' or 'Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye'. But post 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne' (he won the Filmfare and IIFA awards for best playback singer), his compositions have almost become unbearable. Also he began to sing regularly. 'Dil Diya Hai' is really a poor effort by Reshammiya. He can only but pray that at least the remix versions get some listening space in party circuits. Though essentially not dance numbers, party animals, who love to gyrate to anything on offer, may provide him some solace. Or else, he can look up to passionate-kisser Hashmi to spring some magic on screen. For listeners, 'Dil Diya Hai' is really worth giving a miss, except for those who have vouched to be loyal to Reshammiya, come whatever may. | A.R. Rehman launches his music company By MIO Team Aug 09, 2006, 09:38
| Legendary A.R. Rehman takes another giant step in the realm of his musical career. The music maestro, who has been associated with singing and composing so far, has plans to get into the music production business as well. He has named the label as KM music and though it doesn't sound anything familiar to us, it supposedly stands for something holy and lucky for him. The sole concern of the company will be to find new talents including composers but mainly new voices who could go unnoticed otherwise. A.R. Rehman would however stick to only producing the music and not distributing it. | Copyright 2006 by MusicIndiaOnLine.com
