Biopics and especially sports films are not new in Bollywood. It was last year when the biopic PAAN SINGH TOMAR won tons of appreciation from many quarters and showed that this "genre" has life in Bollywood.
Sports film have a long history in Bollywood. Films like LAGAAN and CHAK DE INDIA are considered classics. Why, even Aamir Khan's 20 year old sports-based film JO JEETA WOHI SIKANDER is still talked about today!
Now, we have Farhan Akhtar attempting a sports/biopic film: BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG.
Farhan Akthar is a smart man who knows his choices well. As a director, he has rarely given a flop. As an actor, he has been a part of hugely appreciated films like LUCK BY CHANCE (by critics) and ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA which was a huge hit.
How will Farhan Akhtar fare with BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG is the question!
It was about 8 months ago when the first teaser of BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG was released. The teaser received a good response. The theatrical trailer released later also got a solid response.
The director of the film is Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra. He has been hit-and-miss as a director so far. On one hand he has given flops like AKS and DELHI 6 but on the other hand he has the loved film RANG DE BASANTI to his credit. I am sure, that this time he has made a film that will win tremendous appreciation.
Yes, I feel that BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG will be loved and will be gifted with box office rewards as well as awards at award ceremonies!
Opening of the film will be good. The film has created hype.Because the film is based on Milkha Singh (also known as the flying Sikh) I feel that the film's opening will be best in North, particularily East Punjab.
After the opening weekend, I feel that the film will sustain due to strong content, mainly at multiplexes.
My box office predictions for BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG:
Opening Day: 6 crores net
Opening Weekend: 22 crores net
Lifetime Collection: 60+ crores net
Overall Box Office Verdict: Hit
