@AreYaar - OMG! THAT HOSPITAL SCENE SIGGY! It's so awesome!!! :O

Okay, Hindi speaking people, I need help :P I still can't understand what Kundan says in his beginning monologue. It was in the trailer as well. I could only understand, "Namaz mein wo thi, aur mujhe aisa laga jaise dua meri qabool hogayi.." (not exact wording I know) but before that about the priest coming from somewhere and stuff...wo samajh hi nahin aya. Help please?

I can try :)
He says, 100 years ago King of Banaras ( Banaras Naresh) had brought his grand father from Tamil Nadu to Banaras for priest job. But it feels like Banaras has accepted him now only.

Acha, he was referring to himself? I thought he was talking about Zoya 😆 So he saw his "Heer" and felt that acceptance? Nice!

Thank you!! 😳

Yes, and he adds that he didn't have even a hint of a moustache on his face but he felt like he had grown up in that one moment and wanted to marry this one girl only...lol

The kid playing little Kundan also did an AMAZING job...they took care of the little details like making sure that even the kid talks in a Tamil accented Hindi...lol the bit where he tells the shopkeeper why he didn't dress up as Ram ji to collect chandaa for Dusshera...fab acting.

Also loved the the dedication in the opening credits..."For Lord Mahadev and his beloved Ganga"

Don't remind me of that kid! Because then I remember that last shot with him and elder Kundan passing by and there's just so many FEELS!! 😭😭

But yeah, event the kid did fab job! But I'm still in awe of Dhanush...it's like Kundan literally grew up when Dhanush got a beard look. In the beginning he did seem like a typical 10th standard kid but as the leap of 8 years happened and he just grew up...splendid!

@bold : oh thanks for explaining that line..it was not clear to me even after listening twice...😆

and yes i totally agree..kid did a gr8 job..i simply loved the way he gave explanation about his "mahadev costume"...so adorable it was...😆 infact there are so many such sweet moments..even i loved the katrina kaif comment by muraari..that time the way kundan was saying "how she looked like KAT" ..it was so real ...those r the scenes which we can watch again and again

Eros has posted new vids about the making of the movie:

This one talks about casting the leads...

Very insightful about the thought process regarding how these characters were conceived and how they zeroed in on the actors.

Loved the bit in the end where Sonam talks about how her dad advised her to look at the monitor after a scene to get more instant feedback...she really has pushed herself for this role.

Two more vids:

Anand Rai talks about Benaras and the connection with Shivji which seeped into the characters of the movie...loved what he said about this quality of Shivji's that he loves with all his heart but can be so destructive in his anger too

This one talks about the concept

"It's not about being SUCCESSFUL in love...it's about BEING in love"

LMAO@ Himanshu saying "Hindustan jaise desh ke andar agar aapka pehla pyar successful hai, toh aapko ticket free"😆

Yes, I do agree the political part had some loop holes but as i said before we should look at the film as Kundan's story. It is his narration what is being shown. So Jasjeet's entry felt irritating coz thats what how Kundan must have felt at that point of his life.

Infact if you see each character of the story is shown as how Kundan interacted with them at different point of life. We see characters through him. We only get to see what he saw. That's why we dont see Bindiya's character details For example: they dont show what happend at kundan and bindiya's wedding day. All they show her is standing at balcony..coz that's what he has seen...

Even the character jasjeet is shown to us as how much kundan knows him through zoya or his interaction with jasjeet. Therefore how jasjeet died etc etc..was not shown coz Kundan does not know all those details. All he knows is he died. How and when is unknown to him and therefore to us and honestly there was no need to show all those details of other characters. it was strictly kundans' story which he was narrating ...

^^
excellent sharp view of vision,..
from Kundan's eye's corner,... that I did not notice,...
thx for mentioning it, so precisely .
Plus, story also says somewhere in the beginning,..
that Kundan was an adopted ( tamil Brahmin originally ) and a raised child by UP's Pandit home, and hence
his parents were not also real,.. and ( KRK is wrong about his comments about no ugly looking Pandits in UP ) , also if you had noticed,
when in the end his parents ( father ) hears of Kundan being shot, he is not much kinda affected nor he drops his 'nivaala' ( while eating )but kind of still keeps eating,...
However the point is not understood that,...
if Zoya was so keen on fulfilling jasjeet's left work,... how she could join those two ( traitors ) enemy party villians, when she knew it well, that Jasjeet was in oppose of those two frauds, since long,... !

I disagree. Kundan may have been adopted but his father was definitely moved by the news of his death. He might not have got up to rush to his son like Kundan's friends did but the way he continued eating, it was like he was forcing himself to eat, forcing himself to be indifferent to the situation because he was the one who kicked Kundan out of the house and severed ties with him. Just to keep his word of severing ties with Kundan, the man tried to put up an act of indifference...tried and failed.

Zoya was keen to fulfill Jasjeet's work but she joined them only to get revenge of Jasjeet's death from Kundan? 😕 Her love for Jasjeet overshadowed all rational thinking. Like Jasjeet's friend, Anand I think, said to Kundan that he knew Jasjeet more than the two ladies (sister and lover) and he (Jasjeet) would've appreciated Kundan's way of doing things. I think it kinda showed that a woman's love is drastically different than a man's. A man might put his love as the second priority in his life if real responsibilities and duties call his attention but for a woman, love is always the first and foremost and if given a chance, she would readily forsake her other duties to fulfill her call of love. Zoya thought that by giving Kundan the same end which Kundan bought Jasjeet, though unwillingly, she might somehow please Jasjeet's soul and wound her own broken heart. It just showed Zoya's feelings of love which were drastically different than Kundan. She thought of revenge to please her love whereas he thought of sacrifice to please his love. Parallels..
