And then here in this video just a couple of years before I was born, hundreds of innocent people are being burnt alive only because their religion is different. What is wrong with our society? Religion is the worst thing that has happened to mankind. What an unfortunate tragedy. The accounts of those widows was really painful to hear, I cannot imagine what they must have gone through and still go through. 😒

@ Bold - I wholeheartedly agree👏 The society we have today has no place for religion [And this is coming from someone who does indeed believe in religion and higher power] Either people need to learn how to deal with each others religious viewpoints without killing each other OR eradicate religion completely. Sadly, I don't see anything being done in the near future. We have had communist states [USSR, China] that have tried to eradicate religion from the public sphere, yet they have failed miserably. It's as if human kind is wired to be religious. Until and unless we teach ALL humans to put humanity above and before religion, we are doomed as a race.

There is absolutely no respect in that remark, its highly obnoxious.

I agree there should have been a better evacuation plan but then i doubt even till this date we have one, 26/11 is a proof.

But the baffling thing is 2 weeks before it was widely known that the shrine would be attacked, in fact the 1st firing was on 2nd June, yet on 5th June we have thousands marching with children inside the place. I am Punjabi myself, so i know the religious importance of the day but still.

The anti-India sentiment was too high in the state, of-course that doesn't justify the innocent killing but the sole blame cannot be rested on the Army, more than 100 dangerously armed terrorists were there, they are more to blame for this.

I believe the onus to protect public from terrorist [such as Bhindrawale in this case] falls first and foremost on the government. That is why we elect governments to begin with. Government is there for public protection, where do we go if we it comes to a point that it is the government we need protecting from? The government in this case acted as a terrorist - so what exactly is the difference between the protector and the things we need protection from? If governments were to be judged on the same scale as terrorists, we wouldn't have need for them in the first place, would we?

The army is not responsible for what happened. The government IS. It was their job to save as many innocents as they could but they didn't. They marched right in and opened fire without paying attention to how many innocent lives got lost. Doesn't make them much different from the terrorists, does it?

@Castiel

Exactly I mentioned in a previous comment , the onus is on governance, there was a delayed reaction to the hostility perpetrating in Punjab and the operation was conducted in a very haste manner.

The army followed the order, my take was on the general sentiment running in the state, there was a firing on 2nd June and yet thousands visited the place on 5th June, if they were defying the government , good for them but y bring innocent children to a place where there is every chance of a massacre to break out.

Different ideologies divided on religion resulted in the killing of the innocents.

I'm not an atheist. I believe in God. Don't believe in religion though.
Religion is just a way of life, made by man. And if its man-made its not perfect, infact far from it.
My connect with God is personal. I don't need a religion to tell me how to connect with God.

In essence, spiritual but not religious.

@ Charming Genie - I doubt it was as simple as that. No one wants to get killed specially not out of defiance. There may be some who would do that but not a whole lot. Defiance alone would not lead hundreds/thousands to put themselves at the heart of of firing lines. If defiance is the case, as it seems like you believe, then there should be more to the story. People only defy when they feel strongly about a certain subject. In that case, it would make Bhindrawale a leader of the community who wanted his community's voice to be heard. Anyway I agree with your other points. But this really isn't about division within Sikhism. This is about the atrocities handed out to the Sikhs at the hands of Indian Government and how they have let all the perpetrators roam free.
