"boy operation thing" you had me there! 😳😆

well to summarize we all agree on one thing that what happened during the shootout at the Golden temple and the further riots were really shameful acts. And AB Sr lost his marbles and made the most W*F statement of his life.

We are disagreeing on whether Army should have been involved for fishing out armed militants from the temple.

you watch mad men?

@ Charming Genie - I doubt it was as simple as that. No one wants to get killed specially not out of defiance. There may be some who would do that but not a whole lot. Defiance alone would not lead hundreds/thousands to put themselves at the heart of of firing lines. If defiance is the case, as it seems like you believe, then there should be more to the story. People only defy when they feel strongly about a certain subject. In that case, it would make Bhindrawale a leader of the community who wanted his community's voice to be heard. Anyway I agree with your other points. But this really isn't about division within Sikhism. This is about the atrocities handed out to the Sikhs at the hands of Indian Government and how they have let all the perpetrators roam free.

Bhindrawale is considered a leader, his current death penalty is protested by the Akali Dal the ruling government of Punjab. And yes I protest the fact that Tytler and Sajjan still are not behind the bars, was never more disappointed when they were allowed to contest elections.

Well even for defiance government's slow reaction is to be held responsible, a state was used as a recruiting ground for militants and no action was taken.

I dont get the division about Sikhism , I havnt mentioned , religion I mentioned in terms of creation of Khalistan which to this date i dont agree with. And for atrocities - I agree not only Sikhs but there are many sections of society who have not got their justice. And our political class in totality is to be blamed for, Akali's want Bhindrawale spared and Congress wants to shied itself, and this y the justice is delayed , they all unite for their own.

I don't think he is half anything. He was brought up in a Hindu household with Hindu ideology and that is what he identifies himself with. And honestly, whether or not he is half Hindu/Sikh should not even matter in this case. The only thing that needs to be taken into consideration is how his hateful speech resulted in the life loss of many innocents.

Religion is just a way of life, made by man. And it its man-made its not perfect, infact far from it.
My connect with God is personal. I don't need a religion to tell me how to connect with God.

In essence, spiritual but not religious.

Agreed!

The most important thing is to be a good human being.

There are people who religiously go to mandir/masjid every day and won't think twice before taking another human being's life. If they think, their GOD approves that only because they are religious, they're sadly mistaken.

@ Charming - That was my point. He isn't as big of a terrorist as people make him out to be. Loss of innocents was never his main goal like it is with your regular terrorists who blow up people from different sects just to prove their point. But all that aside, I am willing to label him a terrorist because he was wrong in holding up the Golden Temple as a security measure against the government. He used innocents as a shield to protect himself which again is completely wrong and unethical. You shouldn't risk the lives of innocents in order to prove a point. Yet my contention is that the government is no less if not more. They failed to protect when that is their only job.

And as far as militants being recruited is concerned, we can each write a dissertation on it. More than enough people felt wronged by the government thus they started the defiance. That should tell you that the government was in the wrong since time immemorial. The militancy bred due to the inadequacy of the government. Either way you look at it, the government is to be blamed.

And for division within Sikhism, that was a retort against your argument, "Different ideologies divided on religion resulted in the killing of the innocents." I thought you were implying the division within Sikhism resulted in the killing of innocents.

Anyway we do seem to agree with each other more or less save some points.

The topic at hand is a sensitive issue that could become controversial especially when it involves religion so I'm closing this topic.
