U contradicted ur point... Talaash had a great story , yes it was predictable but a very good film with great acting by everyone. Moreover it gained positive reviews in India!

yes! But the movie was boring! Audience looks for an entertaining script! A superstar is secondary! So I actually did not contradict myself!

In this particular situation Shabana is right.

SRK has the right intent to make men and women equal in Bollywood, but his method is wrong. It is frivolous and pointless. Putting Julia Roberts on top of the cast list for Ocean's Eleven wouldn't make the movie about her or make her role more significant. To be genuinely equal both male and female celebrities should take the lead sometimes, and sometimes play the supporting role.

It is easy to say women simply should stand for themselves and do women oriented films. And women in Bollywood have indeed changed over time. Movies like No One Killed Jessica, Saat Khoon Maaf, The Dirty Picture, Kahaani, Heroine really put women in the spotlight. Barfii showed that even the female can carry weight in a movie, even in a supporting role. The history of Bollywood also has had women centric films like Mother India, Guddi, Aandhi, Khoobsurat etc. But this doesn't take place in a vacuum. There is no separate women's film industry. Men have to be willing to play a supporting role. Directors, producers, scriptwriters all need to be willing to make women oriented films. Women like Meryl Streep wouldn't be as successful if her male co stars had giant egos and never wanted to be overshadowed. A lot of the female centric movies like were either written, directed or produced by men. Of course Hollywood makes movies like Juno, Bridesmaids, Mean Girls, where women have taken the lead scripted, cast and made women centric hit films – but it has been a long journey and all movies had men who were comfortable to be in the female lead's shadow.

Bollywood is still very hero centric and box office driven. Makers are still very heavily inclined to make Dabangg, Rowdy Rathore, Himmatwala type films with male leads and heroines thrown in for eye candy. So for men and women to be on an equal footing we do need male superstars to keep their ego in checks and play an active role in making that equality happening. Especially the ones who have already had glory and superstardom can start doing something meaningful to give back to cinema. Clint Eastwood maybe a senile old fellow who talks to chairs, but look at the movies he directs and produces – you wouldn't say it was the same macho cowboy behind it all.

Random side note: I want to see a Bollywoodized rendition of Girl with the Dragon tattoo. I mean if there is any kick ass female oriented script with one heck of a strong female lead – this is it. Especially relevant considering the focus on rape and sexual harassment in India these days. Women's issues form a central part of the series. And if James Bond can play second fiddle to a tiny woman, why can't SRK?

See what I have been able to interrupt Shabaana's View point is that backing of a superstar would definitely be great benefit for women centric films,,,.

So a women centric film with a crappy script kamaoing a lot money only BECAUSE a powerful MALE is present in the film is absolutely fine? Kya logic hai! 👏Sirf naam ke liye women centric film chahiye kya? Don't you want the women to be so powerful themselves that they shouldn't NEED a Khan or any other powerful male to make their film a BB?

It had 90 crore box office success... That's good for u such a film! But I still believe that script be it in BW or in HW always comes secondary, no actually tertiary!
