Awards will always be subjective because acting cannot be rated and compared that way. But when someone's own mother has responsibility in judging, people will never take it seriously. There have always been some silly wins like Priyanka and Arjun but do you really see anyone complaining? Even this year, people can complain that Ranbir didn't win and Irfan won but nobody is really whining about it because it's possible the jury just preferred Irfan. That's fine.You don't have to agree with certain wins. Lots of people don't and it's fine. But in Saif's case, it was blatant corruption and nepotism to have your mother giving you votes and bargaining on your behalf. If Sharmila wasn't there but Saif still won for Hum Tum, you would hardly see people complaining so much. They would have just added it on a list of other stupid wins and gone on with their day.I'm glad Saif got so much flak for it because it ensures that it's unlikely that someone would steal an award so blatantly next time because they've seen the backlash. Even Saif seems a little embarrassed by the award in certain interviews lately. I bet even he wishes in retrospect that it never happened and he won it later for Omkara instead. At least then people would have respected it and not mocked him for it constantly.
I've already said before that the award will be tainted because of Sharmila. I don't blame anyone who believes Sharmila rigged it in Saif's favor. Its a possibility, just not likely IMO. Its easy fodder and too simple of a conspiracy theory to hang on to.
Did Saif deserve the National Award? Maybe, maybe not. I have no idea about the regional performances of that year but in Bollywood only Abhishek was equally good in Yuva. Saif was perfect as Karan. Flak, means nothing. 20 years down the road the only thing that will matter is that Saif has a National Award.
Back to topic. This is about was SRK better in Swades than Saif in Hum Tum. I disagree. Saif was most definetly better than SRK.
Btw, do you believe SRK deserved the NA for Swades?
