If not by money, Prachi is smart from what I see in interviews, must have used her connections and still she's doing films with A listers...she was part of JDJ, which she won

I read sometimes abt linkups with Mr shetty...it may be true/false..

Sushant did tv for 4 yrs I think and he participated in 2 reality show JDJ and ZNKD, where he was most appreciated, and got successful than PR

Same goes with who were models...atleast they have something to spend on themselves

others most probably end up on tv

Nope! You have the wrong info. Amounts like 50000 were paid to stars like Smriti, Sakshi, Shweta, Ronit and Ram in their heydays. Even today they might be commanding similar amounts as they are stars. But people like Prachi who are newcomers for Balaji are barely paid 5-6 thousand per day of shoot. Balaji is the worst paymaster on Indian TV. And how long will the reality show prize money last? If I remember right Prachi won 50 lakhs. Take away 30% gift tax and she is left with 35 lakhs. That money wouldnt have lasted her for more than 3 months.

On topic, why is it a surprise? Look at the newbies who debuted in the last 5 yrs. All rich ,with connections, modelling background, or fullfill atleast one or all these criterion.

Dug out some articles on actors pay. This article is from the time Kasam Se was going on. It mentions top paid actors including Ram and Prachi.

Salary Watch: Top 10 TV stars

These days TV is no longer considered a small medium. Television stars get paid a fat amount. We list the 10 top TV stars and what salaries they draw.

10. Twinkle Bajpai – Rs 15, 000 per day. She plays Laxmi in Ghar Ki Laxmi Betiyaan. This is her first show and as of now she is doing only this one. She works 20 days a month.

9. Jay Bhanushali – Rs 20,000 per day. He was recently seen in Jhalak Dikhlajaa. He debuted in television almost a year back. Kayamath is the only show which he is doing right now." I am happy with amount I am getting right now. At least I can comfortably spend on my expenses," says Jai.

8. Ram Kapoor – Rs 25,000 per day. Kasamh Se is the only show which he is doing. He did a cameo for Kyunki.

7. Rajshree Thakur – Rs 30,000 per day. She is the lead in Saat Phere and under a contract of 20 working days a month.

6. Prachi Desai – Rs 35,000 per day. "As of now I want to concentrate on my film so I will take break from Kasamh Se. However, when I return, I will talk about my raise."

4. Sumeet Sachdev – Rs 37,000 per day. He is doing Kyunki and Karam Apna Apna with Balaji.

3. Sakshi Tanwar – Rs 45,000 per day. She is in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki as the main lead.

2. Smriti Irani – Rs 1, 00,000 per day (It is said that she wanted an increment before she left Kyunki). She works 20 days per month but in addition is also producing many shows.

1. Ronit Roy – Rs 1, 00,000 per day. He used to do three shows for Balaji at one same time. Right now he is doing Kasauti and Kyunki.

PS: All actors are under contract with their respective production houses. This contract has a various clauses which generally includes 20 working days a month. Most are paid through cheque. Newcomers get paid around Rs 20,000 but it can vary depending on the production house.

Posted some articles on TV actor salaries. Do your maths considering she started off as a newcomer(5 to 6 thousand per day for 20 days a month for a year) and then got popular(35000 per day for 20 days a month for the next year) Add a few more lakhs for the reality show.
