Eh? Overseas figures arent considered? Why? woh bhi paise hi hain ..

They are considered but the verdict is different in India and Overseas. Like Yaadein flopped in India and was success in UK & USA . But it is a flop. Some of Srk's films that have done lower business in India did big in Overseas but people still look at them as perception flops.

As for Kai Po Che it is is doing good in Overseas and the verdict might be Hit there.

But that does not mean the verdict in India is hit. IDK what verdict in INDIA is I assumed it was a hit but I guess not 😲

Thats weird... 😕 ... the whole perception thingy ..
What does it matter where the net collections are more ...?
Do the producers actually care how it is perceived if they do end up getting back more than twice the amount spent for the film? KPC has done that ... by earning more than twice the budget...

And the movie is actually perceived to be a hit in India by the trade pundits ...

I thought Race-2, Kai Po Che and ABCD are hits?
Or do they mean 100-crore movies? Are those now the only movies that will be considered successful now?

@Lunza: There are only two figures IMO. One is Taran's figures which is on the higher end. This is generally the producer's figures. Taran is a chamcha of everyone in BW so he isnt really respected by the audiences. But you get the latest news from producers from him including BO figures. Other figures are by BOI which are on the lower end. But even BOI has their favorites like Salman IMO and they tend to go overboard with his films. But they have been around a lot longer than Taran and have more data. I guess upto 2009 even Taran goes by their figures.
I think the truth is somewhere in between. The most reliable trade analyst IMO is Komal Nahta but he doesnt regularly give out figures on twitter. He probably gives them out on his show.

Oh ok thanks. ...
So basically it can be argued both ways :) ...

I think I will go with the majority reports that are coming out .. including the ones from the producers themselves ..

What...I swear I saw BOI declare ABCD a hit. 😕 I thought they declared KPC a hit too & SP 26 was above average or something.

Either BOI is now backtracking, or I seriously need to sleep more. 😆

BOI backtracked for JTHJ so its possible they are backtracking for ABCD. They downgraded JTHJ to hit from superhit.
ABCD though will carry more returns for UTV as compared to KPC due to lower costs. As per BOI both earned in similar ranges in similar territories.
SP26 is average due to the high theaterical rights.

Okay, then they are backtracking for both because I remember that ABCD and KPC were declared hits by BOI. I have no idea why though. Lately lots of people have been grumbling about BOI's declarations & how they don't make sense...I mean in the industry also. They seem to be losing some credibility.

Yeah I understood SP26's status and Race 2's also. They were apparently sold for a lot, and Race 2 had a very wide release & needed to do well above 100 crores to get to a "hit" status.

Everybody starts blaming BOI when there favorite star's film isn't given the desired certification.

The truth is BOI is completely unbiased and there standards of a HIT film are not as low as the other analysts, who get there numbers from the producers who are known to inflate them. They also have their personal equations with stars/ production houses and this is where bias creeps in.

BOI gets there raw numbers straight from exhibitors and distributors which is as clean as it gets.

To get a HIT tag a film has to perform decent/well in most circuits. A low budget film like ABCD made all of its money in Mumbai and the South. Distributors from the North ended up losing money. Giving it a HIT tag would be unfair even though it recovered money overall. But there were distributors from many circuits who ended up losing money. SEMI-HIT.

Similarly Race 2, a big budget film, was sold at high prices which made it a loser in a few circuits. SEMI-HIT

If Komal Nahta or Taran Adarsh are to be believed every 4th film is a Super-Hit. BOI is unfair, unbiased and clean. They present you with numbers and facts. Believing them is your prerogative. But it is nothing but the truth.
