C'mon Hum Aapke Hai Kaun is two weddings and a funeral. Even "four weddings and a funeral" didn't get any nominations or wins.

You do realize that Hollywood makes song and dance musicals too, albeit less now than back in the day but very few like a Chicago or Les Mis get recognition? You do realize that many successful and commercial Hollywood cinema don't get nominated? Oscars lean towards "good" cinema which is not necessarily the same as "entertaining" cinema.

I agree one should make films for one reason . To tell good story. If oscars, 100 crore, or even awards in Bollywood happen it should be a plus. Not a requirement .

As for international exposure I mean 7 films in 2012 grossed over 6 million USD in Overseas. A record. Housefull 2, Agneepath, Barfi, ETT, Dabangg 2, Talaash & JTHJ. Also many films like EV, GOW, Kai Po Che or recently Emraan Hashmi's Ek Thi Dayan were opened at film festivals across the world. Dabangg 2, Talaash, JTHJ & ETT all made it into the top ten highest grossing Bollywood films in Foreign Markets. I do not know what the oscar is needed for. First off no one will be unanimously happy with the choice. Irfan Khan was so angry Barfi was chosen this year he said Rowdy Rathore would be better Choice. 😆😆😆 I agree Rowdy Rathore is Bollywood in the truest form.

It is like Shakti Kapoor said in AAA "Yeh oscar oscar kya hai Yeh oscar oscar"😆😆😆

I was watching the oscars and they made joke on that. A few of the actors from that film were presenting an award. and they said we made the most popular film of the year and no repsect from the Academy 😆😆😆.

It's not the matter of "Need", but it would be nice for Indian talent to get recognized at a huge scale...I mean how many people had legitly heard of Lagaan before it went to Oscars. Afterwards, I saw Lagaan DVDs at my local Blockbuster...so I guess it's never a bad thing.

But I do think people, especially some Indian actors think Oscars are worthless and mean nothing...and that mentality is sad b/c I feel like performances like Daniel-Day Lewis, jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, Christopher Waltz, etc are so amazing...and I don't think I've seen anything close to that in BW films in 2012. Sure PC and Ranbir were good in Barfi, but still it wasn't the same level of WOW.

All being said, I really think we need to separate BW films from Indian films...b/c there are A LOT of regional films that are beyond amazing but due to political reasons those films don't get the same recognition and I hope we can change that...along with the writers. Hire more original writers, please!

Even his role models are...Jack Nicholson, DiCaprio, Christian Bale and Gosling...pura hollywood material 😆

And I agree with his list...he does respect Big B, Salman, SRK, etc...but he doesn't "idolize" them and this speaks volume. A lot of people shift camps when certain actors are doing better, but he doesn't..he sticks to himself and that's really the only camp you need if you're talented and smart.

There was a time Oscars ignored everything that was popular, especially the fantasy fiction genre. It was only when the first two LOTR films were royally ignored and even esteemed film critics complained that Return of the King got recognition. Since then Oscars have started recognizing that even "popular" can be "good". Comedy, especially raunchy comedy was also ignored. So Melissa McCarthy getting nominated last year for Best Supporting Actress was a welcome surprise.

Wow cool it seems Emraan and me have something in common when it comes to actors he favours from Hollywood. 😉

I just love Jack Nicholson, Leonardo Dicaprio and now recent favourite Christian Bale.

RTH, even now allthough they nominate, but hardly popular and entertainer movies win. I mean i can never forgive them for not giving chris nolan a best director trophy like ever. that guy is a genius.
and had heath not passed away unfortunately, maybe someone else could have won the supporting actor one.
