...I had an issue with Parineeti's Zoya. Arjun's Parma was a despicable character but I was disturbed that he didn't suffer for what he did to Zoya. I mean there was a debate on whether he raped her or not, and that he got away scott free was disturbing...unless his mother's shooting was supposed to be the "punishment." That didn't work so well with me.
The end message against honor killings is good, but it got diluted by the above I felt. I wish the parents had some remorse that they were setting out to kill their kids, or some guilt.
Acting wise, I thought Pari and Arjun were good. Arjun easily had the hardest debut last year, in terms of his character. His Parma was a character that was completely unlikable. But he did well for his debut. His main problem is that he's not at all good looking, and that well...he always looks bored/asleep.
I think that was the hardest part about Arjuns role, going from being so despicable when he left her on that train without any bullets in her gun all the way to the one that was ready to stare death in the face going all the way to her house with her. He progressed tremendously as a character, and went from being hated to atleast somewhat acceptable.
I truly do believe his mothers death was his biggest punishment. She was truly the only person, until eventually Zoya, who understood her son. You could see how much he loved his mom when his grandad earlier in the movie was talking ill about her. He went against EVERYONE to keep his mothers one last promise.
I also think it was nicely added that there was no guilt between families because to them their power, position, and respect means ALOT more than their own childrens lives, yes I know sickening.
That Arjun Kapoor, yes hes not the best looker but he nailed the role of Parma and he WILL be a guy to look out for in the future! I wouldnt be surprised if he leaves Ranveer in the dust in Gunday.
