It's just the hindi film Industry. For the north, you have the bhojpuri film Industry, the punjabi film Industry etc. The bengali film Industry is also seperate. Then you also have a different Gujarati cinema. You are already aware of the south Indian industry. These are the industries where regional accent matters, not in bollywood which encompasses hindi in all it's forms and accents. The problem would have been Hema and Sri talking in Tamil in Hindi films, as long as they're not doing that, I don't see the problem?

I really don't understand what is so disturbing about having an Indian accent? It seems like a very ignorant and racist thing to say. It's a matter of dialect. People will obviously be influenced by their first language. People set too much store by having the "right accent" when there is really no such thing. If you mean to say that the correct accent is the accent where the language originated, well, the American and Australian accents should be equally disturbing, since they don't conform to the British way of speaking, and didn't they start speaking English because of the British occupation? Just like Indians did. And all these countries have their own distinct accents. Why is the American way of speaking considered natural or ideal? Everyone has an accent, you can't not have one. Technically, speaking a language is about the grammar and the semantics and the pronunciation, and even that varies across countries sometimes. It's difficult for people to adapt to different languages. You make fun of Indians because they don't sound exactly like you do when they speak English, but you don't acknowledge the fact that they are fluent in more than one language, which is more than a lot of Americans can say.

And if you think the Indian English accent is disturbing, I think the way a lot of Indian Americans speak Hindi is very wrong too. Specially because Hindi has a lot of soft sounds that people who have grown up in the US seem to find difficult to imitate and that is ok. Yes, I do find it strange sometimes when people can't pronounce their own names correctly, whether it is saying "Dev" with a hard D, or not knowing the difference between "a" and "aa" when speaking, but you wouldn't like it if we made fun of that. Ask someone who has grown up in the US to speak a few straight sentences in Hindi, and compare it to a native. Trust me, you'll find a lot to mock. And maybe it will help you understand how difficult it is. And unnecessary, even. I realize that a lot of people here don't live in India, and it shows when you guys type something in Hindi. Because there are a lot of grammatical errors. You probably don't even realize it, because why would you? It's the same for Indians who speak in English. yet they are mocked. I know some people mock people from other countries because they sound different, and that is put down to ignorance and definitely not condoned. But I am assuming that people here are mostly Indian, even if you haven't grown up in India, so it is very sad that you are ashamed of your own countrymen for being themselves,

Language is about communication. When did it become an excuse to look down on others?
