A problem with newcomers is also that they tend to try to emulate older stars instead of giving a fresh persona to audience to get excited about. Salman-Aamir were a refreshing alternative to ageing Bachchan and assembly line action heroes. Hrithik was a refreshing change too when he'd arrived.

Newcomers have shown Khan or Hrithik hangover. No persona of their own!

Really who emulates who?

@MaroonPorche

I meant to say they try to emulate. It doesn't mean they necessarily copy the other stars completely.

IMO these 3 film contracts have also spoilt the newcomers. Ranbir was the last star who had to brainstorm on his own. Now every newcomer whether Arjun, Ranveer, Sid, Varun has either KJo or Adi Chopra to brainstorm his career moves. Only thing the newcomer has to do is smile for the cameras. Cannot imagine any of them doing a SRK or Salman when it comes to establishing their images. They are all highly replaceable with each other.

@ksh

Yeah. And these Adi-K Jo types are more worried about devising the next 100 crore hit for the Old Boys' association and the newcomer keeps moping for years till attention is turned to him again.

No I dont think thats true. The old boys can look after themselves and hence they demand too huge profits from these guys. And Adi, KJo are loathe to share the spoils. Hence the attention to newcomers. But these newcomers are all too preetified and designed to please. They remind me of Miss India contestants where you cannot tell one attractive woman from another. They look the same and say the same things with the same accent. To stand out one needs a distinct personality. And that distinct personality should connect with the masses. Otherwise as soon as one gets too demanding he is replaced by another.
We hear horror stories at times of Salman or SRK(not sure if all are true or not) but can you imagine them replacing each other in each others roles? But Varun can easily replace Sid and viceversa. In fact I had difficulty in even telling them apart.

LOL! True! Even I can't distinguish between Varun and Sid (still get confused TBH)!! 😆

That's why I said the newcomers lack a personality of their own to come across as a refreshing or exciting alternative to audience. All assembly line stuff.

Though Ranveer showed a personality of his own in BBB.

You are right...but Adi Chopra already has Arjun Kapoor with similar rugged appeal to keep Ranveer in check. No one should stick to 1-2 production houses. Otherwise they get stuck in a rut especially if they are doing it too early in their careers. Thats what spoilt things for Abhi, John, Neil Nitin Mukesh. Ranveer too is signing too many films with YRF.

I'm glad you said it yourself and corrected me. This is what I meant by newcomers having a Khan or Roshan hangover or trying to model themselves after either of those stars.
