I said no one expected such phase for SRK because he was the only one who was playing the game right initially. He seemed to make the right choices. For eg., just see how he gave an ATBB like KKHH and an acclaimed film like Dil Se in same year. Yash Chopra himself used to say he had doubts over Darr and would think of shelving it (due to problems of heroines/heroes being replaced, warnings of a risky subject, problems between stars) but it was due to SRK's faith in project that it got made and released. Why did such a guy go wrong later? With age and experience one is believed to only get better so I said it was unexpected.
The keyword nowadays is media engagement and marketing. And SRK was the first one to manage media well unlike others who banned them. In-film branding happened for first time in DDLJ and DTPH. KKHH had brand tie ups with even Kelloggs back then in 1998 when those Chocos and cornflakes cereals had posters of Kajol-SRK on them. After Amitabh Bachchan he was the first to interact with fans as much as possible. Later others also became more accessible to fans.
All things which others do now for their and their films' promotions were done by SRK and co. in past. So it wasn't expected that others who took cues from his strategies only would upstage him later. (Everyone mauled him for spending time in TV channel studios later all stars did the same. People disliked him for that too but had to shut up after all stars started doing same!)
In fact he had clean image and nobody could ever think this guy could get angry in public.
We can say he's human after all but it's certainly hard to digest for he had impeccable record onscreen and offscreen in past (especially the 90s).
Just wondered what went wrong. Where and how?
