'Khiladi 786' disappoints, 'Talaash' strong!

KHILADI 786 has emerged a big disappointment in key markets. The film has under-performed in U.K., U.S.A., Australia and New Zealand, despite a catchy title, hit musical score and Akshay Kumar's popularity with the diaspora … TALAASH was the first choice of moviegoers in all major markets, despite a new opponent [KHILADI 786]. As a matter of fact, the second weekend biz of TALAASH was better than the opening weekend biz of KHILADI 786.

Weekend: December 7 - 9, 2012.

U.K. & IRELAND BOX-OFFICE

TALAASH: In its second weekend, the film has collected 1,38,158 on 63 screens, with the per screen average working out to 2,193. Total: 7,13,552 [Rs. 6.22 crores].

KHILADI 786: In its opening weekend, the film has collected 1,04,156 [Rs. 90.73 lacs] on 79 screens, with the per screen average working out to 1,318.

JAB TAK HAI JAAN: In its fourth weekend, the film has collected 34,984 on 26 screens, with the per screen average working out to 1,346. Total: 15,60,823 [Rs. 13.60 crores].

THUPPAKKI [Tamil]: In its fourth weekend, the film has collected 2,660 on 4 screens, with the per screen average working out to 665. Total: 2,12,705 [Rs. 1.85 crores].

SON OF SARDAAR: In its fourth weekend, the film has collected 1,870 on 3 screens, with the per screen average working out to 623. Total: 3,38,875 [Rs. 2.95 crores].

AYALUM NJANUM THAMMIL [Malayalam]: In its sixth weekend, the film has collected 1,738 on 5 screens, with the per screen average working out to 348. Total: 21,507 [Rs. 18.73 lacs].

U.S.A. BOX-OFFICE

TALAASH: In its second weekend, the film has collected $ 4,49,195 on 161 screens, with the per screen average working out to $ 2,790. Total: $ 23,97,909 [Rs. 13.05 crores].

KHILADI 786: In its opening weekend, the film has collected $ 2,28,967 [Rs. 1.25 crores] on 114 screens, with the per screen average working out to $ 2,008.

JAB TAK HAI JAAN: The total stands at $ 33,66,528 [Rs. 18.32 crores] after its fourth weekend.

NADUVULA KONJAM PAKKATHA KAANOM [Malayalam]: In its opening weekend, the film has collected $ 4,726 [Rs. 2.57 lacs] on 3 screens, with the per screen average working out to $ 1,575.

DAMARUKAM [Telugu]: In its third weekend, the film has collected $ 3,622 on 8 screens, with the per screen average working out to $ 453. Total: $ 1,39,086 [Rs. 75.68 lacs].

SON OF SARDAAR: The total stands at $ 7,70,442 [Rs. 4.19 crores] after its fourth weekend.

PUTHIYA THEERANGAL [Malayalam]: In its tenth weekend, the film has collected $ 154 on 1 screen. Total: $ 2,852 [Rs. 1.55 lacs].

AUSTRALIA BOX-OFFICE

TALAASH: In its second weekend, the film has collected A$ 1,11,300 on 23 screens, with the per screen average working out to A$ 4,839. Total: A$ 5,64,459 [Rs. 3.21 crores].

KHILADI 786: In its opening weekend, the film has collected A$ 67,523 [Rs. 38.45 lacs] on 24 screens, with the per screen average working out to A$ 2,813.

JAB TAK HAI JAAN: In its fourth weekend, the film has collected A$ 2,056 on 16 screens, with the per screen average working out to A$ 129. Total: A$ 6,96,480 [Rs. 3.97 crores].

SON OF SARDAAR: In its fourth weekend, the film has collected A$ 34 on 1 screen. Total: A$ 2,95,413 [Rs. 1.68 crores].

NEW ZEALAND BOX-OFFICE

TALAASH: In its second weekend, the film has collected NZ$ 38,035 on 13 screens, with the per screen average working out to NZ$ 2,926. Total: NZ$ 1,88,013 [Rs. 85.16 lacs]. Note:- Includes Fiji figures also.

KHILADI 786: In its opening weekend, the film has collected NZ$ 21,240 [Rs. 9.62 lacs] on 6 screens, with the per screen average working out to NZ$ 3,540.

JAB TAK HAI JAAN: In its fourth weekend, the film has collected NZ$ 1,189 on 15 screens, with the per screen average working out to NZ$ 79. Total: NZ$ 2,02,826 [Rs. 91.89 lacs].

FIJI BOX-OFFICE

KHILADI 786: In its opening weekend, the film has collected FJD 34,969 [Rs. 10.74 lacs] on 2 screens, with the per screen average working out to FJD 17,485..

Khiladi 786 Steady But Low On Monday

Khiladi 786 had a low Monday of around 4.75-5 crore nett but collections were steady as compared to Friday The collections are around 45% lower than Friday which is better than normal for a Monday but the film had a low Friday.

The four day total of the film is 34 crore nett approx and the first week should collect in the 45 crore nett region. The opening of the film really killed the film's potential at the box office.

The film is unlikely to match the expectations even in some of its good areas. Gujarat which is one of the better circuits for the film fetched around 7 crore for the film just before release and the first week share is looking 3.5 crore at best which will eventually lead to a 30-35% loss for the distributors.

"Khiladi 786" is performing not bad on weekdays if one sees the drops in comparison to weekend numbers but problem is that weekend numbers were below average. Film will have strictly average week one.

Film collected 5.40 cr nett in on Monday followed by 4.65 cr nett on Tuesday as per early estimates. Film has collected 44 cr nett plus in 5 days and film will finish with 50-51 cr nett week one. This means if film collects 15-20 cr nett then film can reach 70 cr below average figure but a good 25 cr nett make it 75 which will be a good figure.

Akshay starrer "Rowdy Rathore" and "OMG Oh My God!" made hefty profits for distributors but this is the one where number of distributors will lose money though makers are safe as they sold it at most of the places.

Khiladi 786 Holds Steady at the Box Office on Monday

After doing some decent business at the domestic box office in its 1st weekend, Khiladi 786 held up pretty well on its 1st Monday. The movie made about 5.40 Crores nett on Monday which brings up its 4 Day total collection to 39.50 Crores.

A 1st weekend collection of 34.10 Crores was not bad for the Akshay Kumar starrer, since Khiladi 786 had some stiff competition from Mr. Perfectionist's Talaash.

With no major movies lined up for release this weekend, Khiladi 786 is expected to do some good business till the release of Dabangg 2 on the 21st of December.

Khiladi 786 was poor overseas with around $1 million over the weekend. even Pakistan which could have better due due to the name was poor as even in that market Talaash dominated in the second weekend. The figures from major markets are as follows.

North America - $230,000

UAE - $300,000

Australia - $70,000

Talaash has emerged a SUPER HIT film overseas as it has grossed $7.25 million in ten days. The film is the third biggest overseas grosser of 2012 after Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Ek Tha Tiger. SUPER HIT
