Salmania at its peak!

By Taran Adarsh, December 19, 2012 - 08:28 IST
The countdown has begun! DABANGG 2, the much awaited biggie of 2012, opens globally this Friday [a day earlier, on Thursday, in parts of Overseas]. One of the most anticipated films of the year, its release timing -- during the Christmas and New Year holidays -- is expected to translate into big bucks at the ticket window.

The last few years have been extremely rewarding for Salman Khan. His movies have done phenomenally well in the domestic market. In the international arena too, his popularity has increased manifold. DABANGG, BODYGUARD and EK THE TIGER in particular have grossed humungous figures, cementing Salman's status as a global star. DABANGG 2 is expected to strengthen his position further.

The hype for DABANGG 2 is crazy. The advance booking has been fantastic and it won't be erroneous to state that a typhoon is all set to strike this weekend. In fact, the question on everyone's lips is, will DABANGG 2 emerge Salman's biggest hit? Another question: Will DABANGG 2 overtake the business of 3 IDIOTS in the domestic market [202 cr nett]?

The expectations are gargantuan and so is the responsibility on Arbaaz's shoulders. From the looks of it, expect new benchmarks to

Rapists deserve death sentence: Salman

Rapists deserve death sentence: Salman

Condemning the gang rape of a 23-year-old girl in the capital, Bollywood star Salman Khan Tuesday said rapists should be hanged.

salman khan

Condemning the gang rape of a 23-year-old girl in the capital, Bollywood star Salman Khan Tuesday said rapists should be hanged.

"In my view, there should be a death sentence for all rapists. Such things have no role in our life. I feel disgusted after hearing such things. For me, this is a third grade crime. I also believe that there should be a norm that if a rapist goes to jail, he should be beaten till death," said the 46-year-old.

The brutal rape and torture took place Sunday night when the woman along with her male friend boarded a private bus at Munirka to go to Dwarka after watching a movie.

The woman was beaten up, stripped and raped by at least seven men who were inside the bus. Both the woman and her male friend, who was also beaten up when he resisted, were thrown off the bus near Mahipalpur.

Salman feels people should have zero tolerance for such crime and that they should try to stop it if they come across any such incident.

"I think Indian society needs to be 'dabang' (bold) in their approach. I recently read a news where a girl was being molested and people standing nearby were making videos on their phones. This is not the real India and I don't think if such incidents can ever happen in front of my eyes," he added.

The actor was in the capital Tuesday to promote his upcoming film "Dabangg 2", a sequel to 2010 hit "Dabangg".

"Dabangg 2" releases Friday.

Dabangg 2 Heads For Record Opening

Wednesday 20th December 2011 10.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Dabangg 2 is almost certain to have a record opening. It may not have the opening day record as that depends on whether that day is holiday but over the three day period which is the best judge for an opening it will set a new high looking at the craze.

The difference on a non holiday is that today multiplexes have multiple shows and it is difficult to fill all shows to capacities especially in the metros while on a holiday it is possible. The first day single screen business will be similar to Ek Tha Tiger which opened on Independence Day holiday as single screens audiences have that craze to catch a film like Dabangg 2 on first day, holiday or no holiday.

There is most likely to be a shortfall in multiplexes on day one compared to Ek Tha Tiger as huge chunk of multiplex going audience has work commitments but if there is any film that can close the gap on a holiday and working day, it is Dabangg 2.

Till date no film has crossed 15 crore nett on an opening day which was not a holiday while the biggest holiday opening day is 31 crore nett which is huge 16 crore nett gap.

Dabangg 2 will cruise past 15 crore nett but the real question is can it go towards the 30 crore nett mark and make that holiday factor less important.

Box Office prediction: Will Salman's Dabangg 2 break ETT records?

Salmania is at its peak once again after four months after the release of Superstar Salman Khan's last film Ek Tha Tiger. The countdown has begun for his next much-awaited movie Dabangg 2, which is slated to hit the screens worldwide on this Friday for the Christmas and New Year holidays. Many are keeping their fingers crossed about it whether it will break the records of Dabangg and Ek Tha Tiger. Salman Khan's 2010 film Dabangg has set several new records at the Indian Box Office. His last release Ek Tha Tiger, which released on August 15, 2012, has broken some of its records and registered few new records. To recall a few, it is the highest first day grosser (Rs 32.92 crores in India), the fastest Rs 100 crore grosser (in five days), the highest grosser of the year 2012 and the second highest grosser of all time in the history of Indian Cinema. Will Dabangg 2 break these records? Dabangg, which hit the theatres across globe on 10 September 2010, was released in 1,800 screens in India and around 300 screens overseas, while Ek Tha Tiger hit 3,300 screens across the country and 550 screens overseas. Whereas Dabangg 2 is releasing in over 3,000 screens in India and 450 screens overseas. In volume of release, Dabangg 2 has surely broken Dabangg records, but it will not cross the other one. Dabangg was released on Eid holiday and it has seven days first week, while Ek Tha Tiger hit the screens on Independence day holiday and it had nine day extended first week. In addition, it had Eid holiday, which boosted its first week collection (Rs 150 crores in India). Whereas Dabangg 2 is releasing on non-holiday and will have seven days first week. But it is expected to cash in on Christmas holiday, which falls on its fifth day of its release. However, Dabangg 2 is a sequel to blockbuster movie Dabangg, which has created huge hype for the film. Secondly, this flick marks Salman's brother Arbaaz Khan's debut as director. Sajid-Wajid's music and its trailers have soared up the curiosity of the movie buffs to sky high. Besides these aspects, Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha has been busy promoting the film on a few TV channels and also visiting various metros across the country. But trade experts feel that Dabangg 2 lacks huge craze, hype and promotion when compared to Salman Khan's last release Ek Tha Tiger. Moreover, it is hitting the screens on a non-holiday. Hence, trade analysts think Dabangg 2 will not be able to break first day, weekend and week records of Ek Tha Tiger. But their Box Office predictions for Dabangg 2 shows clearly that the movie will cross Rs 100 crore mark in the first week. Stay locked to this space to read its latest collection reports.
