12 trailers clamour to go with Dabangg 2, only 2 make it

By Subhash K. Jha, Dec 18, 2012 - 10:58 hrs IST

Who wouldn't want their product to be sold by Salman Khan? If there are any doubts as to his current star status they can now be laid to rest. Judging by the insane rush to attach trailers to Salman's latest release, there's no doubt as to who the biggest star of them all is.

Apparently 13-14 major producers and directors put in their application for their trailers to be attached toDabangg 2. These included some of the biggest films under-production or on the verge of release.

It can now be revealed that only two trailers have made it to the final cut. These are Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Abhishek Kapoor's Kai Po Che.

Both, because of Salman and his brother Arbaaz Khan's personal relationship with the people involved.

Confirming these Arbaaz says, "Farhan Akhtar is a very close family friend. Salman and I have grown up with Farhan. He personally requested for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag to go with our film some time ago. There was no question of refusing. Then we saw the Bhaag Milkha Bhaag trailer attached to Talaash. So we asked Farhan if he still wants his trailer with Dabangg 2. He said yes. So it's there. The other trailer going with our film is also a dear friend's film. Gattu (Abhishek Kapoor) and I have known one another for years. He wanted his trailer of Kai Po Che to go with our film. So it's going. No questions asked."

Arbaaz admits there was an avalanche of requests for trailers to go with Dabangg 2. "I'd have loved to say yes to all of them. I love watching trailers when I go for a movie, the more the merrier. However we wanted Dabangg 2 to be of a particular length, no more than 2 Hours 10 minutes, so that exhibitors could squeeze in an extra show if they so wanted since there's an unusual demand for screenings of Dabangg 2."

Both the trailers of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Kai Po Che are being digitally encoded into prints of Dabangg 2. That means they have to be screened with the main feature film and cannot be deleted at the whim of individual exhibitors.

Says Arbaaz, "The decision to attach the two trailers was purely emotional. We didn't think of what should go with our film. We only thought of the personal equation that we share with the people who asked to attach their trailers with us.

'Dabangg 2' song in copyright row

Yesteryear lyricist-producer Shailendra's family alleges copyright infringement

Yesteryear lyricist and filmmaker Shailendra's family is unhappy with the song Pandeyjee Seeti Bajaye from Dabangg 2.

According to his granddaughter, Priyannkka Shaily Shailendra, the song is inspired by the track Chalat Musafir, composed by Shankar-Jaikishen for her grandfather's production,Teesri Kasam (1966). She has sent a legal notice to the producers and associates of the film.

Composers Sajid-Wajid have claimed that it's a folk tune, so they didn't buy the rights. However, Priyannkka maintains that apart from the first stanza, the tune is a rip-off.

"There's definitely an issue of copyright infringement," she says, adding, "No consent was taken from the family. So, we have raised the issue that some acknowledgement be given to Shailendraand Shankar-Jaikishen."

When asked if they've contacted Salman Khan and director Arbaaz Khan, Priyannkka says that she's "trying to talk to Arbaaz".

She recalls an earlier experience, "When the song Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost (Aap Ki Khatir, 1977) was changed to India Se Aaya Mera Dost for Chandni Chowk To China (2009), I spoke toproducer Ramesh Sippy. But nothing came of it. So, in this case, I decided to send the legal notice before it was too late."

Adds Priyannkka, "It's primarily about safeguarding and protecting the legacy of the legends who created such beautiful songs. Besides, copyright issues are constantly taking place in the industry."

When told that an issue is being made out of her notice, Priyannkka says, "The family only hopes that Shailendra and Shankar-Jaikishen be shown due courtesy, nothing more. But it seems it's not acceptable to those associated with Dabangg 2."

Composer Sajid maintains, "Our lawyer has replied to the legal notice. We've used a folk tune, which is a national property and brought it out for today's generation."

Salman Khan sets 200 crore mark for 'Dabangg 2'

The makers of 'Dabangg 2' and trade analysts are hopeful that Salman Khanwould break all box-office record and cross 200 crore mark in quick time.

Trade analysts are confident of the film's success."On its release, Dabangg had crossed the Rs 140 crore mark and two years down the line, the buzz as well as the market has increased manifold. Moreover this is a true blue sequel. The hype is unprecedented and there is no reason why Rs 200 crores won't be a possibility," chirped a birdie.

Salman Khan's films never misses to cross the 100 crore mark. His films always spelled magic at the box-office and with 'Dabangg 2', the actor is expected to create a new benchmark. Salman Khan has narrowly missed 200 crore mark with 'Ek Tha Tiger' which ended up making190 crore.

"100 crore is passe now, not just for him but every superstar worth his salt. Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and now even Ranbir Kapoor has cracked it. Aamir anyway started it all. So for how long can one continue to bask in the glory of something which is fast becoming a trend and is almost a rule than being an exception. The new 'mantra' is 200 crore. Only Aamir is sitting pretty there after 3 Idiots. Now Salman is the one who can take a possible shot at that mark", comments an insider.

Since it is a festive and vacation season, collection is expected to be high. Advance booking of the tickets is open.

PVR, Senior Vice President Operations, Mr. Rahul Singh shared his opinion.

Mr. Singh said, "We are most certainly waiting for next Friday, when 'Dabangg 2' hits the theatres. Since the first installment of this franchise was such an amazing superhit, the anticipation is riding high for the sequel. The film is releasing right before Christmas, on the long weekend so the outlook is very positive. We all know now that last week's release, 'Khiladi 786' did not fare too well at the Box Office, so people are even more excited for this film and Chulbul Pandey's antics in particular."

When quizzed about the pre-bookings status for 'Dabangg 2', Mr. Singh revealed, "Yes, pre-bookings have opened for 'Dabangg 2'. Though we do not have the exact official figures as yet, but from what we have we know that the figures are quite encouraging. And keeping in mind the trend, we are superlative that this film will break the records set by 'Dabangg'."

President of Cinemax India Ltd, Mr. Sanjay Dalia said, "We haven't started advance booking yet, but nearly 25,000 tickets have been sold as a bulk booking i.e for corporates. This spans the entire weekend. We are looking forward to this film very eagerly, and the buzz is understandably high. This time, we have lined up maximum number of shows- 90-95% for the Salman Khan starrer, 'Dabangg 2?."

Well, the craze of 'Dabangg 2' among Salman Khan's fans is really high. The film promises double dose of entertainment.

Dabangg 2 earns Rs 50 crores from satellite rights

A hefty sum has been paid to ensure that Robinhood Pandey's magic works well on the small screen too

Wouldn't it be fun to watch Dabangg 2 in the cozy confines of our homes with lunch thalis laid out in front of us? Of course, this after the movie releases in the theatres and crosses the expected Rs 100 crore mark. So, to ensure that viewers stay glued in to their channel for a good three (or more) hours, Star Plus has bought the rights of the movie for an enormous sum of Rs 50 crores, that too for 11 years. Whoa!

Surely, it looks like the Dabangg 2 magic has started working even before the movie hits the big screens, no? What's more, we are told that the music rights of the film have been sold by T-Series for Rs 10 crores. And why not? The songs are indeed hummable. Aren't they?

So guess Salman Khan, in the garb of Mr Robinhood Pandey, has yet again struck gold, well, almost. And we just can't wait for the box office drama to unfold, once the movie releases in the multiplexes and single screens all across the country. Aren't you excited too, peeps?

DABANGG 2: 3 Days To Go, Family Attends Screening

Bollywood actor Sonakshi Sinha's mother, Poonam Sinha at the special screening of Dabanng 2.

MUMBAI: Salman Khan's 'Dabangg 2', one of the most eagerly anticipated Bollywood films of 2012, is a mere 3 days away from its theatrical release. Which means that it was only a matter of time, before the film's makers brought out the big guns; and arranged a special screening for their friends in the industry.

Present at this very special screening were 'Dabangg 2' director Arbaaz Khan, playing host to his set of friends from Bollywood. We spotted Arbaaz's close friend Sanjay Kapoor, dressed in a very similar shirt and jeans. So much so, that the two could have even been brothers, for the way they were dressed and the camaraderie they portrayed!

Sonakshi's mother Poonam Sinha too came along to see her daughter's work in the film.

Mum's the world for Sonakshi, for she revealed to us how seriously she follows her mummy's advice. "My mum is my biggest critic and I take her opinion very seriously because I know that is one person, who is saying it only for my good and nobody else. If I could have done it much better or if the outfit is not looking good, she will tell me then and there itself. The best part is she is so honest about it. My father thinks everything I do is good only."

When quizzed if she takes her family opinion before signing any film, Sonakshi quipped: 'I consult my whole family before signing a film because they have been in the industry for long, so it's the logical thing to do. My mum sometimes sits with me also for the narration, my dad (Shatrughan Sinha) is not always there so I give him a gist of the narration. Till now, my brothers (Luv and Kush) have not criticized me and are very proud,' said the 25-year-old actress.

Surprisingly, the paparazzi could not spot the usual suspects: Salman Khan, the lovable hero of the film, who plays the role of corrupt cop 'Chulbul Pandey' with lan, and his on-screen wife 'Rajjo' aka Sonakshi Sinha.

Perhaps the duo are visiting the Capital City: According to sources in the Delhi Police, Salman Khan is to arrive in the city today and pay a tribute to the police martyrs, by holding a special screening for them.

Confirmed an officer, "Salman Khan will watch movie with the kins of the five policemen who died during the Dec 13, 2001, Parliament attack. The meeting with Salman Khan will be motivational for the force."
