My Box Office Predictions for Ajab Gazab Love

Director Sanjay Gadhvi has tasted success quite a few times! His three films with Yash Raj Films (MERE YAAR KI SHAADI HAI, DHOOM, and DHOOM 2) all performed well, especially DHOOM 2 which was the biggest Blockbuster of 2006. His next film, KIDNAP, fared poorly at the box office, but that was a more dark type of film, unlike his three successful films which were more feel-good, colorful, type of films that offered entertainment to the public. Now, Sanjay Gadhvi is going back to his element with a feel-good type of film, AJAB GAZAB LOVE (wonder why they made the title so similar to AJAB PREM KI GAZAB KAHAANI 😕 there's even a scene in one of the songs where the actress looks similar to how Katrina Kaif looked in APKGK!)

The theatrical trailer of AGAB GAZAB LOVE was released some time back, and the trailer got a good response from the public. After seeing the trailer myself, I feel that the film does have the ability o connect with the audience (especially the youth). Some parts of the trailer (like the "KELE KELE! KELE LAILO KELE LAILO!") make it seem like the film can work well amongst the audience (even universally). But, even though the film may find appreciation, it may be hard for this film to do well at the box office. The reason being, there are quite a few other films that are also there (STUDENT OF THE YEAR still going strong, CHAKRUVYUH and RUSH also releasing this week), and that may hurt the fate of AJAB GAZAB LOVE at the box office.

Opening wise, the film has a youthful feel to it and I think some of the songs must've caught on with the public, so there will be those amongst the youth who may come to see the film. But, given the fact that the film has no strong face-value (Jackky isn't a big star) and that the film is releasing alongside an Emraan Hashmi starrer, AJAB GAZAB LOVE will have to settle for, at best, a below average opening.

Overall Box Office Verdict: Average
