okay i saw it...
herz my review...a bit long but whtever...
First thing, i am SOOO glad karan chose to direct fluff again instead of trying to impress the detractors by doing "bold" or "meaningful" cinema like KANK or MNIK...
I always liked kjo...u know therz something honest and endearing abt him whenever i watch him or his interviews...and i think he is too harshly judged for choosing the kind of cinema tht he makes...i didnt like KKHH because of the balant offensive nature of the screenplay...but k3g was super fun..hes not the greatest filmaker we've seen but the guy knows his shit when it comes to cheese and fluff...see thts his style of filmmaking and just because its not an "edgey" genre he specializes in (like dibakar or vishal bharadwaj), its easy to take shots at him...
BUT, give this movie to a kunal kohli, a punit malhotra or siddharth anand and they will make cowdung out of it...give it to KJO, and he makes a pretty watchable timepass flick which is good fun...
So ,its not exactly relatable like 3 idiots was for students...coz u know...not many wear louis vuitton to school with a namesake blazer...😆...and not many have washboard abs and superhot sunglasses to flaunt...its unrealistic but its still fun...after all wht r films for??..😆
Anywayz...coming to the movie...its breezy, light, dorky in a way but kinda cute at all that...karan's forte is tht he can create drama even with the silliest of characters and plot points...so u have the rich maa ka pyaar deprived girl, the poor little rich boy, the middle class boy with ideals and morals...and they fight over silly things like a girl and a trophy...but kjo dramatizes all this well so u actually begin to root for the characters...as anupama said, they grow on u...it all works together...
the downside is therz a bit too much of the "hot bodies coming out of the water" thing...which should have been toned down quite a bit...but meh whteves makes u happy kjo,.,,😆
Coming to the actors:
Varun was nice and likable...although he was playing the fahkin annoying sterotype of the poor lil rich boy with daddy issues, i give him props for not making it seem like a caricature...i liked the scene where he leaves his house, and has arguments with sid...or when he supports sid after his dadi is admitted into the hospital...hes a good dancer and has an agressive screen presence...
Alia didnt make any impression on me...shes cute but not pretty or glamorous enough to be "the prettiest girl in school"...she aint tht stunning...a lot of ppl felt she was channelling kareena's role in K3G and i agree to quite an extent...but shanaya had none of the spunk, the hilarious lines or the personality that "Poo" had in K3G...she was pretty meh...
now coming to my favourite of the lot...
excuse my shallowness but YOWZA...when i saw this guy in the black sherwani in the wedding scene i was like :
like helllo hottie...😎...lol...
good looks aside, hes pretty charming...he has this adorable awkwardness on screen which goes well with his character...his dialogue delivery is pretty good too...didnt grate on my nerves at all as i thought it would from the promos...
both the boys really surprised me coz i thought they would be harman baweja or uday chopra reduxes but they are actually pretty good...
i like siddharth better though for obvious reasons...😆
rishi kapoor is golu polu adorable dean...the ruthless business tycoon role is something ram kapoor can do in his sleep...hes was still awsome as usual...and i loved ronit roy as the coach too...i wish gautami as varuns mother had more scenes where she voices her choices against her husband,...shes a good actor...karan should have utilized her well than being a doormatty wife...
anywayz...i say...3.5/5...
PS( the extra 0.5 was for the song sqeuences...those were spectacularly choreographed and filmed...good job there)
final word: shut up and watch how fluff is "really" done...
