I can't sleep :( I hate insomnia...so I guess I will add in my two cents here.

YES, Emraan Hashmi has SOLID star power in single screens. Accepted fully and definitely helped contribute to the opening, but to imply TDP only got that opening because of him is being unfair...because:

TDP was from day 1 all about Vidya. That's what it was promoted as. You cannot deny this--it was Vidya who went everyhwere promoting the film. I don't recall Emraan, Naseer and Tushar accompanying her for promotions much, if at all. Sure they were part of the trailer, but TDP was touted as Vidya Balan's show all the way, even before the film released. It wasn't really promoted as an Emraan Hashmi film. And THAT is why Vidya Balan is credited for the BLOCKBUSTER hit TDP is, not Emraan. Had TDP failed, it would have been HER failure, not as such his because she was the center of all promotions, of the hype.

Naseeruddin Shah is very respected as an actor...but he has no star power. This is something even he won't say he has 😆

Can Bebo deliver on her hype? Rarely.

I agree with u choclover bt not that EH n tushar didnt promote it

chck all the places they went EH was right nxt to her all the time...b it Mithibai college, big boss, kingdom of dreams (delhi), gujrat tour, music launch, trailer launch & Dubai premiere

he even went to rajya sabha to promote it 😆 n he went there alone not with her

bt I will still say its VB blockbuster with a lil kiss frm EH 😉

Chocolover, how can you credit TDP hype to Vidya, when the film AFTER TDP got SUCH A LOW OPENING?!?

So credit vidya for TDP, but none of her other films have gotten these kinda openings, so what star power? And before TDP, she didnt HAVE star power. She rose WITH TDP, so I fail to see how people use that film to show her starpower.

You replace Vidya with Priyanka, and TDP would have gotten THE SAME OPENING.

I stand corrected then. I didn't know about these..I didn't really follow all the promotions exactly. I was remembering KBC and BALH where she went alone.

But my main point was still that she was the one who the film was centered on, who the promotions were centered on.

yea I agree...she was the centre of attraction btw he came with her in BALH too...watch thepisode 😆

hahhaaa I dun think pc wuld have got the same opening...bt yea if bebo was in it...it wuld have been the same too...chalo I agree with u desu...will give bebo appreciation for gettin those 7 crore 👏

Umm...because TDP was all about Silk Smita which was played by Vidya? So the hype was about her, her role?

TDP had a big opening because of:

Great trailer that caught everyone's eye, boldness, super hit song (Ooh La la), Emraan Hashmi, hype, promotions, and the fact that Vidya Balan was doing such a role. You can't deny that people weren't like OMG Vidya is doing THIS...and that too after NOKJ? Shock factor leads to curiosity. It was only after this that people realized...oh shit this movie has a story too (albeit a flawed one) which led to it being such a big success.

You gave the credit only to Emraan and ignored Vidya. Why did the whole industry go batshit crazy prasing Vidya like anything for the opening? Surely she must have had SOME sort of contribution?

That's my point. I'm not atually saying Vidya has some mind-boggling star power..but for a film that centered all on her, her character, surely she must have excited people. Everyone was well-aware that she was the center of attraction. The credit can't be taken away from her totally.

Now lastly Kahaani. 😆 Did it have a hit item song to get single screens attracted? No. Did it even have a chartbuster song? No. Did it have a hyped director at the helm? Hell no. Did it have any sex/sleaze/boldness? No. It had a heavily pregnant VB. It wasn't even that hyped. Was it even expected to cross 10 crores at the BO on opening day? Nope. Its eventual success was mind-boggling for the industry.

Surely you know what kind of films get big openings and which ones don't. 😆 Anways, I wasn't even saying anything against Heroine in this thread..I was solely talking about TDP based on what I knew and remembered... clearly I got some things wrong there but no problem.
