Yes ofcourse it matters. If you're gonna accuse someone of plagiarism, then you have to take timing into account.
You can say the films have similarity, and chances are, the REASONS they have similarities is coz both were written around the same time and TDP released first and by then it was too late to just change an entire project that UTV and Madhur ahd been investing in.

But then, that is not plagiarism. I cannot imagine Madhur Bhandarkar copying elements of SUCH A SUCCESSFUL film so soon after its release into his own. That doesnt even make SENSE

And frankly, Heroine looks much more classy than TDP, which focused quite bit on the "dirty" aspect.
The TDP was more fresh, it was new, it was the first of its kind -credit where its due

BUT, Heroine looks like a more polished, mature, and classy project, hands down.

My point is, besides Kareena fans, NO ONE is going to remember that they were written near the same time. The audience has a short-term memory. What they WILL remember is TDP released first and Heroine looks similar.
You can't imagine him copying elements? They're staring at you right in the face! So many dialogues are essentially the same with a few changes here and there. Some of Kareena's mannerisms like biting her lips to be sexy/seducing are the same too. I'm not sayign Vidya has a copyright on these mannerisms...but when two films with such similarities release so close together, then comparisons will obviously be drawn and every similarity will be MAGNIFIED. Honestly, if there are differences, WHERE ARE THEY? I hardly see any except for Heorine seems more glamourized and contemporary. Honestly..why would you show promos that highlight the similarities but NOT the differences? That just seems stupid to me.
Essentially, I feel like we are saying the same thing...just in somewhat different ways..if that makes any sense whatsoever 😆

Well for one, TDP and Fashion both had a LARGE PORTION of the film that showcased the RISE of the celeb.

Heroine doesnt have the rise, nope, none. Its not at all focused on any of her struggle ot the top. From the beginning titles, we're introduced to the superstar "Main Heroine Hoon is the title track"

TDP was pretty one dimensional screenplay. It followed primarily Silk's life. The focus was just on her.

Whereas Heroine is typical Bhandarkar cinema where he's gonna have some statements to make about the industry itself.
Already the dialogues are being discussed.
Jitesh Pillaai the other day tweeted that now all his colleagues keep saying to him, "Film stars ki friendship tumse nahi, tumhaari position se hai" coz he's the editor of Filmfare. Mahi's dialogue in Heroine was towards was towards an editor of a paper as well.
"Confidence se bolo, toh film industry jhoot ko bhi sach maan leti hai."

TDP did NOT explore the media aspect of stars, their PR, etc. That didnt apply to the South Indian industry at the time like it does today.

The bit about awards being fixed, "Mujhe bhi debut award offer hua tha, maine manna kar diya"

YES, there are similarities, but Heroine, as Madhur and Kareena already established, is also about the inner struggles of an actress, her insecurity, when she's at the top. TDP addressed that in the second half, but the focus was all over the place, whereas Heroine has it narrowed down on her psyche.

As for similarities, sure, in that way, all these Macho man type bollywood films are similar. Dabanng started the trend, which was followed in Singham, Bodyguard, Rowdy Rathore, the typical dishoom dishoom over the top, one man against 10, with those typical seeti maar one liners.

So...why cant the heroine oriented films also use these kinda witty one liners for effect? They're catering to the same masses right?

I think it'll become clear on the 21st what this film's about.

And what's so classy about an actress dating a married actor? Just because Heroine doesn't "expose" every attribute of hers in item numbers within the script doesn't make her better...😆
In the last promo, Bebo looks like a woman who needs some action with her tight short dress.
...
You're very cute as a fan, but let's face it Heroine doesn't seem to bring something new unfortunately.😊

Lets just wait and watch Lily, lets wait to see what happens.
I remember when Kurbaan promo came out, 80% online folks said its another New York.
But apart from the fact that both films were about terrorism in the United States, there was NOTHING they shared in common.

😆i bet the others will be running to see this one before kareena fans. they cannot wait to murder this one. i can feel it. and say what a pity enycedoll.
yes, only saiyaan has impressed me so far. but i as a kareena fan cannot wait to see how bebo and madhurs approach.no doubt there are similarities with fashion, tdp, woh lamhe, imagine the challenge both facing. not only as a kareena fan but as a movie lover i want this movie to prevail. we NEED more heroine oriented movies to be a success, be it critically or commercially.
this will give a push to producers and directors to make more movies on heroine.
if same formula like rowdy rathod, dabaang, bodyguards, etc are lapped every week, why not a fashion, tdp and heroine.

The reason is that this is arguably the biggest "Heroine-oriented" (pun intended) movie of all-time. The $$$'s riding on it are huge. Kareena is the biggest superstar of the last decade and the director has some credibility behind him, as well as the production house. The movie needs to do well, because if if flops, will big producers like UTV ever back a project of this kind. How many directors will accept scripts which are centred around a female, on a canvas as huge as this project?

On the flipside, if the movie does well, there are benefits for all - even those not connected to the movie.

Not only will the producers make huge profits, but Kareena's pay packet will increase by a large percentage. More female-oriented projects will be made on a larger scale. It will give confidence to the financers. And therefore in the future the Kangna's, Deepika's and Sonakshi's can demand more money, because they will be more than just eye-candy. They will bring people to the theatres to watch THEIR performances in huge numbers. These heroines will become heroes and make enough moollah for to do more than feed the hungry producers and their families, but their personal remunerations will increase - it might not match their male co-stars yet, but it would be a step in the right direction.

I remember once Akshay Kumar said something similar to this in an interview a few years ago. Probably around the time of Ghajini's success. He said that he is very happy when other actors' films do really well, because it's good for the industry. Their pay will increase, and so will his, because more money will be invested in films.

*fingers crossed* for decent business and a good movie!

brilliant post.👍🏼

I agree with you.

I'm not saying Heroine has the same storyline than TDP. What I realize is that Heroine doesn't bring anything new by now...Not saying it will never. I haven't seen the movie yet.

There are similarities : affairs, good guy who worships the heroine, desperation, glory and so on...

Maybe the storytelling is different ..But showing off how sexy Bebo is what TDP bet on to sell Vidya's "dirty" avatar.

Exactly! I for one, CANNOT wait to watch this movie but thats only because I'm a Kareena fan. Other than that, I'm embarassed to show the trailers to other people cuz everyone just cant stop commenting on how its the same as TDP and Fashion. I mean, you gotta admit, the dialogues and trailers were so laaammmeee, even I stopped watching them 😆 but I dont care, I am watching this for Kareena!
