Rajnikanth compensated even his producers for these movies! I guess he even agreed to do another movie with them to make up for the losses. Basically when a big star is hired it is expected that his fans will come and watch his movie(thus justifying his fees). But here Akshay by not promoting the film at all let his fans know its a pathetic film. Now which brave soul will venture into theatres to watch the film?
Added to that Akshay is also a co-producer. So he also got a share in the amount the distributors paid for the film. Atleast for these people he was duty bound to do SOME promotions even if he was pissed off with Shirish.

I believe nothing was even hyped with joker, Had the item song been famous and done by some A-lister, that might have made opening a little better?

Not sure even if an A-lister could have helped the song. I mean that mujra from AV didnt help it one bit though Kareena was in it.

well he does only like a film in 2 years...and kuselan and baba were pretty recent...and he repaid distributors back there...

its not tht the hero "should" pay back the distributors...therz no rule...but some heroes down the south do tht by choice for reasons best known to them...i think its because since they take majority of the credit for a film's success, they feel responsible for a film's loss too...

I was shocked to hear this and yes I respect Rajnikanth for such move. You don't find such humble stars who has guts to do such things nowadays

If the movie had been a blockbuster, I doubt the distributors would have even thought of giving extra share to Akshay. There are risks with every project and profits and losses are just part of the cycle of doing business. I highly doubt that if Akshay had promoted the movie the business would have increased by 40% (more like 10% increase).

Whatever. Akki has no excuse. He co-produced this film and starred in it so he has a responsibility to promote it aswell! Joker did terribly bad. And half of the blame goes to Akki!
