its high time for us to realize that these are based on popularity than acting

if its acting trust me even madhuri would not have found a place there, Tabu, koko and more are much better actresses than her

Katrina is a star with much more fan following than vidya and P.C ever had. Bitter truth but yes, hence she would be there in all the polls be it sexy or all time actress (its linked with nothing but popularity and stardom)

Hema Malini being in sholay doesn't mean she gave a path breaking performance.. Out of the old generation she was one of the weakest performers..

Katrina at third? Really? Just goes to show how much majority of the audience cares about actingg..

I guess Kareena ain't wrong when she decides to play flowerpots in films..

oh my god...such an embarrassing list.

but if its voted by this generation..well no surprises.

as far as ACTING goes...this lady wins hands down..at least for me..

1. shabana azmin - 5 national awards. ARTH-nobody out there can even come close to this performance. ankur, bhaavna, masoom (one of my all time fav), godmother...this lady ROCKS or whatt.

and herez the list of actresses who will be remembered for some very fine performances..

smita patil,nutan, vidya balan, tabu, sridevi , nargis, rekha, meena kumari, waheeda rehman, madhubala, kareena kapoor, madhuri, sharmila tagore, konkena sen, priyanka, kajol, vijayantimala, ...

i think ppl are getting confused with acting and being a superstar.

if we talking about THE SUPERSTAR...hands down...

one and only madhuri dixit...and this is where hema, rekha, vijantimala, madhubala, kareena, and few others score a bit higher than the REAL actors like shabana, smita, meena ji...

hema and kareena may not be as big superstar as madhuri or as great actress as shabana and smita..BUT their basanti and geet will be talked forever.

NDTV probably meant "most popular" and not "best" actresses when they said "top" actresses.

Like today's generation (whoever participated/voted in this poll) probably said Hema and Rekha because those are the few popular names they know from olden days. They probably would go like "Nargis, who!? Nutan, who!? Madhubala, who!? The show on Colors!?" 😆 And Katrina, Kareena, Madhuri and Kajol are also on the list due to popularity more than for their acting capabilities (even though the latter 3 can actually act). It's all a popularity game, nothing else!

but then tabu and koko failed in commercial movies.

i am not trying to defend madhuri, but maybe she was not given/offered these kinda roles...or she never bothered to take chances, stayed in her comfort zone. same with kareena..after jwm, what? yes a kurbaan was good, what else...damn...instead of doing meaningful/author backed roles she too moved in the comfort zone, going for more commercial hit movies.

madhuri and kareena are as talented as tabu and koko...but they never took chances..thats their problem...

First of all i did not say mads and bebo are not talented, they sure are. But to know if they are AS talented as tabu, koko i have to see them doing something like them which they haven't so far hence i really cant say. For me tabu, koko will be better actors than mads, bebo, kat, aish anyday till they do something like them

What i meant was, these polls just indicate popularity.

Do i honestly believe believe hema was the best actress from the old generation? i guess she was almost today's katrina, a little better in acting though but her dialouge delivery, expressions mostly were the same. monotonous. Jaya was a much better actress. But people remember hema more, same with katrina. Its all about popularity which makes it to the polls,

While Madhuri Dixit was entertaining charming n her screen presence was felt Konkana n Tabu r two boring good actresses...SO Madhuri will always hav an edge over these two n who whoeva belonged to her era... !!!!
