Shah Rukh Khan and Anurag Kashyap forge a friendship
Mid-Day | Saturday, August 25, 2012 (Mumbai)

It looks like Shah Rukh Khan and Anurag Kashyap have finally warmed up to each other. Word is that both are finally looking at doing a film together.

While Anurag was recently spotted at SRK's Mannat, sources close to Kashyap say, "SRK asked Anurag to make a film for him. Anurag agreed to it but on one condition. The filmmaker told SRK that he would write a film and even narrate it to him but would hand over the bound script only after SRK signed the film."

Buzz about Anurag and SRK's friendship surfaced when the director along with his actress wife Kalki was seen leaving a party with SRK and Karan Johar. Later, all of them were spotted hanging out at Mannat. Also while Shah Rukh was in London shooting for Yash Chopra's next directorial venture, Anurag was also present there.

He was seen bonding with Anushka Sharma who stars in his next with Ranbir Kapoor. Apparently, SRK invited him over to his London home and played a perfect host to both of them.

I wish this was true...but I am sure in 6 months time KJo would have licked his ass and got him to sign his next after his flop attempt SOTY.

This is one rumour I really wish becomes true *fingers crossed*

It's high time SRK worked with talented directors who allow him to showcase his acting abilities rather than riding on his stardom. Few people like Shimit Amin, Ashutosh and Sanjay Leela Bansali have justified SRK as an actor whereas everybody else banked on his name fame

I was shattered when things didn't work between SRK & Vishal. Yes SRK didn't suit the role in Two States but wish he did some other venture with him

Oh god Shreya, please no Karan for a while..not unless we have some other awesome directors in the midst also..

Time for some new directors...time to move onto character roles where acting is more important. There are so many capable directors...Kashyap, Anurag Basu, Vishal Bharadwaj, Shimit Amin, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Zoya Akhtar,Reema Kagti, Prakash Jha, Vikramaditya Motwane, Ayan Mukherjee, Homi Adjania (no Imtiaz Ali in the midst), Milan Luthria, Raju Hirani, Sriram Raghavan, Maneesh Sharma, Habib Faisal, the guy who made A wednesday think his name is Neeraj Pandey :S...list goes on...granted some of them have a very youthful vibe but my point is, BW has some very capable and awesome directors..apart from the same old boring few. I'd rather SRK works with them now. They have different visions than the same old stuff SRK's tried and tested directors have..
Sania, Anurag Kashyap made Dev.D, Black Friday, Gangs of Wasseypur...list goes on. It would be a completely different style for SRK I'd assume..but its still too early for this project..there's no script. I hope somethign materializes someday...before I'm old with grandkids that is😆

Honestly I'm bored with the recent cinema choices of Bollywood; action and comedy. These two are the only genres every lead actor, big producers and directors are interested in at present except for the likes of Ranbir Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Priyanka Chopra who have guts to swim against the tide

There was a time in Bollywood where all the genres worked equally but nowadays people are more driven towards the revenue generators and what the majority of the audience wants rather than showcasing their capabilities and talents as actors, directors etc. This is very sad

@Choco
Completely agree with your take and the directors you have mentioned. It's SRK's and the other leading big Bollywood actors' loss if they don't work with these talented directors

SRK is not going to work with anyone new or do anything different. I've just accepted it now. 😭 There's always talk of interesting new projects with him but nothing ever materializes. I don't know where the young SRK went who burst into the film industry doing all kinds of roles and controversial films and who had a passion for acting.

Lately he just wastes his money making the same old "big" movies and follows around his cricket team.

Looking at the next few directors SRK is going to work with, Farah and Rohit, Anurag seems like an aberration to say the least. And with ETT's huge success and D3's potential windfall collections, it seems SRK will be under more and more pressure to opt for sure-fire BB movies. It's hard to diverge from the tried-and-tested path when every single media headline is churning out hard numbers as a measure of a film's success and his closest rivals are all opting for commercial ventures, as opposed to experimental and off-the-beaten-track projects.

@Bold
Yup that's the sad part of B Town. Everything is measured in numbers; be it box office, actor rankings and what not. When will people's perspectives change? 🥱 This isn't the same story in Hollywood. Nobody cares if Brad Pitt overshadows Tom Cruise, why only in India?

If SRK can experiment with a movie like Ra one which was a utter disaster, he surely has guts to do something different. Besides he has achieved so much as a star celebrity and being in the industry for 20 years, it's high time he tried different types of cinema

As much as I hope SRK starts working with some directors like the ones I mentioned, the bolded bit is exactly why I think it's unlikely something will ever materialize. With everyone busy writing him off, his rivals having overtaken him at the BO, so much pressure to at leats match their collections if not overtake them, SRK would be drawn more to potential BB's rather than something different, something that had more quality..something he wanted to do when started off in Bollywood. Sadly, SRK's "something different" has rarely worked in the past at the BO also..prime example being Swades. Ra.One was an experiment that had potential...but SRK ruined it completely in an effort to make it more acceptable to all because so much money was at stake...
