as for jwm...c'mon who better can mouth this dialogue:
"main apni favorite hoon"

if today i hv to pick THE performance of an actress...hahhh...koi doubt nahi..its GEET.

I'd say thats the fan in u speaking 😉 Because i think you're def in the minority when it comes to dil se. Flawed character, flawed movie, was a disaster all together. But manisha was mindblowing.

She was great in omkara but theres no one scene in omkara that i can remember kareena by; that id have to give to her beau😆 langda tiyagi stole it from everyone. And yes, she was great inDev. Aorry, forgot that and Chameli. Great performances. I wish wish wish she did more movies where she can portray her talent better. It pains me to see her do rubbish movies. Pisses me off is more like it. I mostly blame it on the directors, not a whole lot of talent in the industry and she just has to make do with whatever shes offered. However shitty, and it usually is that, it may be.

And like i said, Geet was Geet because Geet was played by kareena, and no one can do that. It was too close to home for kareena. And her director did a fantastic job of getting aperformance out of her without letting it go overboard.

Starpower/fan following is best measured by the opening of a film.
Compare EMAET's opening to Kahaani, Paa, NOKJ, all films except The Dirty Picture. Kahaani came after TDP right?

Compare its opening to EMAET.
EMAET struggled and fell. Some found it too dull, some found it a good one time watch, but nothing that you'd recommend to others. Nothing exceptional. Kahaani on the other hand was a GOOD film. It grew from week to week, literally. Its numbers increased over time.
That's WOM, not fan following.

Did you know Agent Vinod had a larger opening than Cocktail? Though Cocktail was a huge hit, but AV a flop?
But you know, what did people go in for that made AV a larger opening? Surely, cocktail's genre was safer and a good option.

U know, i do wish people would do away with star power and box office pull and all thats. Ts allpart of the package, i understand. But then wouldnt katrina take the cake from them all? Because if its about the box office pull then katrinas the reigning queen. 😕

Gaurav, if you put in ANY name in place of Kareena, and ask if X actress has exceeded the actress of the 90s, you'll get the same responses.

There is a nostalgic factor attached with the past. Most of the members grew up watching Kajol, Madhuri, Sridevi who were icons of their time.
To say that ANY actress exceeds someone in the past is inaccurate and just not done.

Its like saying:

Has Ranbir exceeded Aamir, Shahrukh, etc in terms of performance?'
How can he, it was a different time, you cant compare. But does that mean Ranbir's not good? NO

Has Vidya exceeded Tabu?
How can you compare? Different times caused different fate. But yeh, Vidya is more POPULAR that's for sure.

I can say that Kareena has created her own identity and will be remembered for years to come as the top actress of our time.
Debut in 2000, Kareena still flourishing in 2012, and hopefully beyond. That is a SUPER LONG innings for any actress.

Very well said! I agree with you and.. Kareena is definitley a much better actress than most actresses today and a lot of them from the 90s. Won't compare her with the 90's legends like Sridevi and Madhuri though coz as you put it, its just unfair.

Enycedoll, I have to say I disagree with you about Urmila. She's a damn good actress, who recognized her worth too late.

Ek hasina Thi, Pinjar, and Bhoot. Wow.
Wish she had been given her due.

And yes, whoever quoted saying that Katrina has more starpower, OFCOURSE she does. I havent denied that. She defeinitely has mass following. To deny it would be being delusional.

But Kareena is not that far behind either. After Kat, she has the biggest fan following. Her films have been getting consistently good openings post 2009. Yes, EVEN Agent Vinod. It beat Saif's Cocktail, which was a superhit. EMAET, 21 crores, very good. Then it slowed and crashed. People found it too dull, too boring, not enough happening. I thought it was a very nice rom com, subtle, but not for the masala audience.

I stand corrected on account of Urmila. Totally forgot about Pnjar and bhoot. Unfortunate that the movies occured so late in her career to do anything to a career that was fading away.

Kareena needs a few movies like that in her career. Movies that focus on her alone and yet are hits. So far she has JWM in her kitty...i cant think of any other movie that may have workd on her account alone. Heroine might change that for her but it waits to be seen how she will fair AFTER heroine. She may fizzle out, alot of the actresses did despite strong performances.

So does kareena surpass the 90's actresses? I think not yet and probably wont either. But shell be remembered, and if we wont im sure shell be around to remind us, she was a great of THIS generation.

The title "surpass'

but, surpass in 'what'?

acting, box office, starpower?
if its acting, manisha, urmila (Ek Hasina Thi, Bhoot, Ranggela)
Kaajol, Juhi (Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke) Madhuri, Sridevi all shone.
If its star power, no one could touch Madhuri Sridevi they ruled,
urmila did only RGV movies, Manisha had a huge fan following
because of her beauty since 1942 love story
maybe kareena is more popular than Karisma her sis was,
because karisma inspite of Saat Hindustani and Zubeida
came nowhere near madhuri and kajol, sridevi in popularity
talent wise also, karisma was good in those two movies
no other comes to mind

She may fizzle out IF Heroine was her last claim.
But right after marriage, she has Talaash. And many sources, inclluding cast member nawazuddin, confirmed that she has the most important role alongside Aamir there.

Next year, she has Satragyah with Ajay and Amitabh, and a rom com to balance it out with Imran. It'll keep her connected with the youth.
Lets not forget but seems liek she's back in Ram Leela, and if anything, there is very strong buzz that Johar is signing her opposite Hrithik in Karan Malhotra's next. Johar has been keen on bringin Hrithik and Kareena on screen for a while. He even mentioned in a chat transcript.
If none of these, Dhulia is also keen on her doing Begum Samru, so that's another interesting project.

She's already straddling Vidya and Katrina.
Vidya can act, but doesnt have mass following.
Kat has mass following, but cant act well.

If Bebo nails Herione, she'll conquer the USPs of both.

I really don't think she's straddling anyone.

If anything, she has her own niche.
The fan following that Katrina has is unequal to any other

and the craze following Vidya's recent successes about her performances is not exactly easy to beat.
