Karan Johar is directing his first film with newcomers Student Of The Year. Naturally there is excitement about the project, which promises to be different from his other films that have been big star studded affairs.

It has been reported that the film is along the lines of the American tv show Glee, which is a current rage. Here's looking at the similarities between the two.

Set in - a high school
Lead actors - debutant teenagers chosen from auditions
Song choices - cover versions of popular songs from the past
Star Power - Guest appearances by Britney Spears, Gwyneth Paltrow
Musical coach - Matthew Morrison plays Will Schuster who teaches them music
Romance track - has multiple love triangles happening between the cast
Dance numbers - every episode has a dance song, which is a stand out track

Set in - a high school

Star Power - Kajol, will be making a small role in the film
Musical coach - SRK playing the professor who teaches them music
Romance track - will be a love triangle between Varun, Siddharth and Alia
Dance numbers - actors will go through dance routine rehearsals before shoot

What's different

While Glee is an all out musical, SOTY will use the theme of a musical as its backdrop. Also unlike Glee, Karan's film won't have the plot progressing through musical numbers.

Instead the songs will be shot in the style of a musical. They will stand out in the film and be in keeping with what's popular and current.
